The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation which was Established in 1958, with currently having 50 Laboratories has been one of the Dream for many Youngsters of India to Pursue a Career in the DRDO as a Scientist. The DRDO which provides oppurtunity for almost all the Engineering and Science branches even for the Specialisation of the Branches.The Laboratories such as: Advanced Systems Laboratory Hydrebad, Aeronautical Development Establishment Bengaluru are popular Laboratories of Students Interests. All the Laboratories over the Country Contribute in one or the other way to the Nation.
Currently there are around 5000 Scientists in all the Laboratories around the Country, and almost in total there are 30000 Employees. The DRDO serve in all Domains such as:Aeronautics , Materials, Metallurgy, Biomedical e.t.c. The Students are Inducted by conducting Exams by Recruitment and Assesment Centre of DRDO. The Expeected to have a Valid GATE score and also with an Aggregate of 60% in their Undergraduate Degree in any Branch either in Science or Engineering. For the Scientists Post, they Seperately Conduct an Exam and People finished their HSC are Assessed by DRDO CEPTAM as DRDO MTS(Multi Tasking Staff) exam.
The Students are Ranked in the order of their Performance in the Written Test and Interview. The students are Qualified Generally in the Order as:(Valid Gate Score+Written Test+Interview).The Students are selected according to the Number of Vaccancies and the Ranking List Prepared by them for the number of Vaccancies according to their Performance. The Students are then indulged into the Training held at Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) at Pune. There the Students are given a Training for a Period of around 16 weeks termed as the Post Induction Training.
There the Students are involved in General Organisational Orientation Training (GOOT) for a period of 08 weeks and General and Advanced Technology Training (GATT) for a Period of 08 weeks, and only Scientists are incorporated in this Training. Apart from the Training the Students are also made to involve in Group Activities such as Presentations and Communication Skills, Material Design , Manufacturing Technology, Research Methodology. Faculties from Premier Institutes such as IIT, NIT and other Premier Institutes Recognized by the Country will Deliever Lectures.
The students are also made to Involve in Group Research Projects during their Training Period. The Students after the Training Period they are inducted in one of the DRDO labs from the Country with the Designation as Scientist B .The Students are Provided with good Grade Pay and also with many perks and also they provide accomodation for the Scientists. They also Provide Mtech and Phd Courses from Premier Institutes like IIT by using Screenings from the Institutes . You also get a Stipend from the DRDO. Otherwise you are like a normal Mtech Student from the IIT. The procedures are same as per the Institutes Norms.
