About 28 military planes of china flew in the (ADIZ) Air Defence Identification Zone of Taiwan on Tuesday (15/6/21). The Planes include fighter aircrafts and nuclear-capable bombers. This is the largest incursion by China that occurred since the island began self-ruling.

Taiwan’s defence ministry said that the latest Chinese mission involved 14 J-16 and 6 J-11 fighters, 4 H-6 bombers which can carry nuclear weapons and the anti submarine and the electronic warfare and early warning aircraft.

China claims complete sovereignty over Taiwan which is Democratic nation of about 24 million people. The mainland china and Taiwan are being governed separately over 7 decades. The Island nation considers itself sovereign while China is claiming Taiwan as a territory of mainland under its One-China policy.

Brief History:

There was a civil war in China in 1949 between Chinese Communist Party and the Republic of China after which ROC relocated to Taiwan. From then ROC has exercised effective jurisdiction in the Island nation Taiwan and a number of outlying islands. Around 1.2 million people followed the ROC while relocating from China.

In 1980’s relationship between the 2 countries started improving and china kept forward the “One country, two systems” assuring autonomy to Taiwan if it accepted reunification, but Taiwan rejected the offer.

A March 2021 poll was commissioned by Taiwanese Govt. which shows that at present many of the major Taiwanese support DPP (Democratic Progressive Party) governments approach in safeguarding national sovereignty. Many of the people also say they feel Taiwanese, rather than Chinese.
