Strings attached: A new concept

The day I started getting far away from all the strings was the day I found myself caught among those strings.

These strings were nothing but the relationships I was in, I am friend to few, daughter to two, and sister to one. Sometimes I think if our life was just about us, then why our story isn’t, our story contains all characters which were role-played by thousands of people who led our way to complete our story. These people are like beads on a string some fall off, some stays but everyone had a role.

With time passing by, and we growing up through different age groups have witnessed cutting off of strings leaving behind memories and pain and strings attached from who have decided to stay and support.

Strings hold us both in negative and positive ways. They will be there to share victory with, tears to shed down with and shoulder to lean on and few strings which might weaken you. You have to be cautious while you sort out the various strings. When we were child , our world felt small yet sufficient and our dreams came with no expiry date. Teenage and adulthood are the age of being a rebel. The strings which were shielding us, start feeling like a boundary which is taking away our independence. How are we so sure that are independence lies away from those strings?

We cover miles, all of us travel in our life journey but at the end of day we all come back to our home i.e;to that string in whose embrace we can grow. We all are weird , just in different ways, we want things to get dispatched but are also waiting for a parcel to come up saying “P.S. I love you.” We ain’t sure about the doorway to our life shall be left open to let people walk in or door shall be closed to keep away toxicity. It feels like a lot to decide on, but keeping decisions wait listed has surrounded us with pile around.

When I ponder upon this concept , the string which is connected to me from far away, seems to be more strong as compared to the one who is close by me. Maybe things which are far away are much easier to handle as compared to those we have to come across daily.

What is ‘No strings attached ‘ ? I think whoever have been a part of our life has also got their strings attached but then , it’s there will if they want to be attached or just walk away. Walking away different ways is called ‘ no strings attached .’

Life is too short to mess it up, instead find a way out to strings which will strengthen you more.

MOBILE PHONES-NOW and THEN

Back in the days of 90’s, when people got habitual of their wired telephones, there came a revolutionary invention- THE MOBILE PHONES. They served as a very useful servant to the humans as it helped them in many ways;

  • Now, no longer there is a need to stand next to your telephones waiting for someone’s call as you can just take it wherever you want.
  • They are small and easy to handle, so you don’t have to make much space for it.
  • Their portability is their key feature

Over the years, as humans and mobiles have undergone a drastic evolution.

They are no longer just a medium of connecting with people but has now became an important part of our lives.

In almost every situation, the first thought that comes to our mind is our mobiles. Weather it is capturing our happy moments, guiding us in difficult situations or making us feel better in bad times through music-all jobs can be performed by a single mobile phone. Now, in every household, almost each family member owns a mobile. Now that the mobiles have got smarter, people have got completely dependent on it. In fact the social media, with the initial and basic feature of connecting with world has now become an addiction for many.

Over the years, the mobile that was developed as a servant has taken over the commands and became our masters. Now we can’t even think of our lives without a mobile. I agree that mobiles can help you get out of every tough situation in all possible ways but there are times when the same device lands you in trouble.

The diary having phone numbers of all our loved ones have now been replaced by the contact in mobiles, so you don’t have to memorize them but what if someday the data gets lost. They kids can enjoy gaming and scrolling over social sites in mobiles but the parks and grounds are now left empty and the rides are layered by dust. Earlier people use to wake up by the melodious chirping of birds and gaze of the sun but now, they wake up by the disturbing sound of their alarms.

Affect on Students during pandemic

During the tough times of Covid-19 the online teaching has become the new normal. To save the career of students the education platform shifted from classrooms to laptops and mobiles. Indeed mobiles were very useful in the pandemic to connect with people, help them, study online, etc. But it was really hard for students to learn online as it required them to sit in front of their phones for more than 5 hours daily. It has caused various harmful effects on them such as:

  • Constant headache
  • Itching in eyes
  • Watering of eyes
  • Anxiety
  • Vision loss

In the race to explore the digital world, we are somehow loosing our connections with the real physical world.

Cryptocurrency

What is this crytocurrency that everybody is talking about? In simple words, it is digital currency in encrypted form. Money transaction is processed and validated through data mining. As of now, using crypto currency is a very complex process. Still, it is becoming popular in recent times worldwide.

Here, money transaction is carried out between two parties only.Hence there is no third party involvement. After validation and processing through data mining,it is kept in public ledgers but the transactions are kept confidential.Once a transaction is validated, miners get this crypto currency as reward.

Litecoin, Bitcoin, Ethereum ,Pipple are some examples of cryptocurrency. Out of this, Bit coin is the most popular crypto currency.

Cryptocurrency works on Block Chain Technology, which is a decentralised technology spread across many computers that manages and records transactions.

There are more than 4000 cryptos worldwide as of now. It’s users are called miners. This virtual currency is exchanged over the internet and uses cryptography as a means of security. There is no central authority to manage this system and it is immune to government interference. It is highly confidential and totally decentralised person to person payment method. All the transactions and accounts can be traced but the owner accounts are usually not easily traceable.

International money transfer can also be done through crypto. As it is becoming popular nowadays, it’s value is getting increased. Some people even use it for investment purposes. A large number of individuals and businesses have started using this. Many online websites also accept virtual currencies as payment.

Bitcoin is a premier crytocurrency created by Satoshi Nakatomo on 31 st October, 2008. It is pseudonomous and is controlled by users called bitcoin miners. These miners use different computer program and resources to solve highly complicated mathematics problems and get a number of bitcoins in exchange. They do this by verifying transactions and adding them to a public ledger called Blockchain. It holds the transaction history of all bitcoins in circulation. These miners keep the network secure and ensure that all systems are synchronized together. Those miners who help to accurately track the transactions and maintain network are rewarded with cryptos.

Ripple or XRP is an open source digital payment platform. Here money can be transferred in actual currency or cryptocurrency. XRP is used as a bridge currency to settle cross border payment in a faster and cheaper manner.

The cryptocurrency has neither been made legal nor banned. In India, they are not in use legally. Experts are advising on shutting down its trading. Likewise, other major countries are thinking of banning cryptocurrencies. So we have to wait and watch if the crypto will become the future of transactions or goes away for good.

HYDROPONICS

Hydroponics is a type of farming technique that uses water instead of soil to grow plants. By using this method we can save a lot of water. Hydroponic plants are planted in a inert media exposing their roots to nutrients rich solutions. Plants commonly grown hydroponically, on inert media, include tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, lettuce and marijuana.

HYDROPONICS- REVOLUTION IN FARMING

HISTORY

The idea of growing terrestrial plants without soil was first published in the book Sylva Sylvarum or ‘A Natural History’ by Francis Bacon, in the year 1627. Growth of terrestrial plants without soil in mineral nutrient solutions was called solution culture. Later William Frederick Gericke created a sensation by growing tomato vines twenty-five feet (7.6 metres) high in his back yard in mineral nutrient solutions rather than soil and named it as hydroponics in 1937, proposed to him by W. A. Setchell, a phycologist with an extensive education in the classics.

The origins of hydroponics can be traced back to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is the first known example of soil-less growth of plants. This was around 600 BC. Later on, around 1100 BC, the Aztec Indians got creative with their growing techniques and created gardens that seemed to be floating. These “floating gardens” were called ‘chinampas’, which had a strong combination of roots and lashes, laden with sediment from lake-bottoms, providing nutrients to the crops and plantations. Similar floating plantations were discovered by Marco Polo on his visit to China, which left him surprised as he hadn’t seen anything like this ever before. In the 1990s, NASA grew aeroponic bean seedlings in zero gravity aboard a space station, opening up the possibility of sustainable agriculture in space.

ADVANTAGES OF HYDROPONICS

• Hydroponics plants can be grown anywhere even in small rooms. Since the plants roots don’t have to expand in search of oxygen and water it can be grown much closer to each other. And instead of putting its energy in its roots growth it can invest its energy into the growth above ground. Through this we can save a lot of space and get higher growth.

• Many diseases are soil-born. And it effects the plant growth in soil based agriculture whereas in hydroponics since weeds, pests and plants diseases are highly reduced and less chemicals are used. It helps the plant to grow cleaner and get healthier foods.

• Hydroponics systems can be built indoors, so there is no need to adapt to outside climate.

• Here, one can grow each crop simultaneously all year round.

• Because of their very less water usage this can be done in countries which have scarcity of water.

• Many organisms depend on plants for their food which disturbs the plants growth whereas in hydroponics since no soil there is no organisms.

• Weeds which grows with plants in soil based agriculture takes up the nutrients from the soil making it hard for the plants to get adequate amount of nutrients. This case is not seen in hydroponics since no soil so no unwanted growth of plants.

DISADVANTAGES OF HYDROPONICS

• For a large-scale hydroponic system proper facilities are required and it is not cheap.
A large field where you can pour a tons of
water is cheaper than building large
greenhouses.

• If a disease occurs it spreads very fast in water as compared to that in soil.

• Expect knowledge is required in this field.

• Proper maintenance of the plants is required.

• Not all crops can be grown here. Some roots based vegetables like potatoes and carrots does better in soil.

Hydroponics is a revolutionary change in farming technique. If it is implemented with proper knowledge and constant monitoring it can yield to a better harvest. We can get healthier food and can save a lot of water. You can start doing it even in your home now. The thing is we have no idea about it. So let’s put our hands together for this new technique which can help us in our long run.
