It is known to all that the CBSE 12th Board examinations have been cancelled due to the on going pandemic. However, the Government did not announce it on its own. The decision was taken after many parents have started worrying about the coronavirus and their ward’s safety. The cancellation was requested also because the classes were taught in online mode and the current grade 12 batch (2020-2021) were passed in their 11th grade without an examination. There were rounds of discussions that were conducted on how should the board examinations be kept offline considering the present situation and the safety of the students. Finally, on 1st of June, considering the consequences of the pandemic, Government of India announced the cancellation 12th CBSE Final Examinations. This decision has given much more confidence to the parents and their worries faded away. However, the next dilemma is about the marking formula that the CBSE would adopt for the students. These marks are very much important for students with which will be the basis for their undergraduate degree courses. For the purpose of resolving, the Government has appointed a 13 member committee to recommend the criteria to evaluate the grade 12 CBSE students.

The next question comes- the mode of admission in colleges. Is there an entrance exam or not? Generally for those who opt for engineering and medical have an entrance test and those scores are also considered important during the admission. Requests are placed by many people about the cancellation of entrance exams for engineering and medical for joining universities. The decision is still pending from the part of Government which will be arriving soon. In my opinion, entrance exams are useful in filtering the best candidates with good knowledge about the subject. There are many pros and cons for entrance exams. Some reasons are given below on why an entrance exam needs to be held.

As we know, college life is a turning point in a student’s life as it is considered as the first step to future career. The first push for students to take up entrance exams is to join the college of their dreams. Secondly, not all are good at all the subjects; Entrance exams can help the candidates to test their own mettle in their particular subject of interest and prove that they are knowledgeable in their field of interest. The exams test the knowledge of an individual in terms of analytical, numerical, comprehension and current affairs. Entrance exams also help students to dig deeper in their subject and learn more and more and thus here will be never ending learning that even successful completion of entrance exams will not be their ultimate goal. By attempting the exam, one need not necessarily pass the exam but he/she can understand the areas where they need to improve and where they stand in the crowd in aspects of knowledge in that subject. Finally, only deserving candidates get the seats in the college. There is no scope for any bias in the selection process.
