LGBTQ AND THEIR RIGHTS

N kavya

LGBTQ is an acronym for “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, Queer. Over the past decade, LGBT people have gained more and more tolerance and acceptance in India, especially in large cities.

LGBTQ people in India remain closeted, fearing discrimination from their families, who might see homosexuality as shameful. Discrimination is still present in rural areas, where LGBTQ people often face rejection from their families and forced opposite-sex marriages. People in the LGBTQ community are fighting for equal rights and acceptance. Trans people, especially, face a lot of difficulty in finding acceptance. People in the LGBTQ community are looked down upon all the time.

This is a major issue because discrimination against the LGBTQ community is highly prevalent. People’s prejudices lead them to think that LGBTQ people are odd and very different. Today, homosexuality and queer identities may be acceptable to more Indian youths than ever before but within the boundaries of families, homes, and schools, acceptance remains a constant struggle for LGBTQ people. I have heard of people coming out of the closet and declaring to their families that they are not the person their family expected them to be. Being L, G, B, T, or Q is not a ‘problem’, nor is it a ‘choice’ as such. LGBTQ individuals are merely individuals who have sexual preferences that differ from what would appear to be the ‘norm’, due to differing learned behaviors and, you know, having a personal perspective and mindset that differs from everyone else’s. Saying that it’s objectively wrong for people to have sexual preferences that differ from the norm is objectively wrong itself.

Transgender people in India are allowed to change their legal gender post-sex reassignment surgery under legislation passed in 2019 and have a constitutional right to register themselves under a third gender. Additionally, some states protect hijras, a traditional third-gender population in South Asia through housing programs, and offer welfare benefits, pension schemes, free operations in government hospitals as well as other programs designed to assist them. There are approximately 480,000 transgender people in India as per Census 2011. Article 15 of our Indian Constitution Article 15, 1949. 15. Prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, Sex, or place of birth.

In 2018, in the landmark decision of Navtej Singh Johar v. Union of India, the Supreme Court of India decriminalized consensual homosexual intercourse by reading down Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code and excluding consensual homosexual sex between adults from its ambit. Amidst strong political movements in favor of LGBTQ rights, people are more accepting of same-sex relationships, with around three out of four Indians supporting them according to an opinion poll. In the 2010s, LGBT people in India increasingly gained tolerance and acceptance, especially in large cities.

Major Activists of LGBTQ:

1. Anand Grover.
2. Menaka Guruswamy.
3. Laxmi Narayan Tripathi.
4. Anjali Gopalan.
5. Gopi Shankar Madurai.
6. Manvendra Singh Gohil.
7. Harish Iyer.
8. Ashok Row Kavi.

Conclusion:

The backlash is the biggest concern at the moment. Homophobia is still one of the last acceptable forms of bigotry in some regions, and my hope is that that changes. Legally India has taken many steps in this area to identify the rights of LGBT community. Discrimination and the fear of discrimination is an important concern among the minorities at workplace.

If normal men and women have the right to live in this society with respect then why not a person who belongs to LGBTQ can live in this society with respect? It’s not about what our religion says it’s about what humanity says.

The dreams we dare to dream.

If we are talking about the present scenario everybody starting from a kid in high school to a working class adult to a pop sensation all of us are suffering from a thing what we call as a conflict of conscience. So in a manner we are asked to grow up when it’s required and at the same time we are also told not to talk while the so called adults are speaking. Therefore we all are in the same page of mental tussle and dilemma that what is right and what is wrong and what does the future beholds for us.

Well if you ask me we all inherit that so called thing called conscience which helps us to differentiate in things and acts which we call humane or inhumane, kind or cruel. If you are still wondering what am I talking about let’s talk about things like a boy can’t wear makeup or a girl should not wear shorts bikinis. Well why is that? Why is it always about you can’t do this you can’t do that what will the people think if you do something like that well what someone else is thinking of me it should not be my problem. As we should always live our lives in a manner that we can embrace everything we are and we can be. As that wise being said love yourself and your decisions and if because of some circumstances things doesn’t work out the way you planned rise up fight again as at least in that way you took your own decision that means that failure won’t be turned into an excuse and that is what makes life a precious thing to behold and beguile. To be frank this society needs some serious reformation as people thinking that a woman can’t do this because they are physical lesser capable or comments like someone is not man enough because of their orientation or developments at the cost of millions of trees who are the only beings keeping us alive from the extinction which is already in effect is not justified.

People will always say stuff like that your dreams are unrealistic, grow up,drinking is a sin, making love is bad and really weird stuff like that but at the end of the day the most important question which we all should ask is what do we want?As that’s all that matters. To do something you love to do is what enlightens our soul. Fight for your dreams and the cause you believe in and live your life in away that you won’t have any regrets and you love each second of your life. As after a storm there comes a light a light of hope justice and Love. Surround yourself with people who actually care for you because there will be a few for sure but don’t dabble with fake ones who are just their to pull you down. As it doesn’t matter if you are associated with one person or a hundred, as long as that one person really cares for you there is nothing to regret .

As at the end you will not need immortality and at that time one life will be enough to touch the stars and to make miracles as we pass to the great unknown together with people with whom we shared this place called home.

It’s a Marriage..!

There are a lot of people in this world who are definitely sure about the fact that they are going to walk the aisle once for sure in their life can be more too lol. But is this decision that important is there a need to marry! So if you ask me it is equally important as well as not so important and it’s totally dependent upon your personality, your mindset and your aspirations and your desires.

So let’s start with why is marriage an important part in anybody’s life. This thing is for certain that before you get married make sure that you have experienced everything there is to experience in this whole wide world which doesn’t happen most of the time. But Ladies and Gentlemen no worries you can always roam with your mio amore but make sure that you are ready to settle down to start something calm, stagnant and homely as marriage without these three sounds like a Banana. Find someone you love and then you can actually live a life worth living. As marriage is something which gives us a sense of sensibility and a pride to prejudice sorry Jane Austen this world ain’t made for your book. Jokes apart lets proceed to the fact that why is marriage so important and why it isn’t. So if you really find your soulmate or that person who maybe your soulmate is as usual definition goes and i quote as someone who accepts you for what you are and not for your bank balance or your job or your looks then no harm comes from getting married. But we can’t forget the gospel that not everybody is supposed to get soulmates, is the place where people actually do mistakes. According to me if you are not so attached with that whole scenario of walking the aisle then it’s best not to get married as when you put a piece of really expensive stone on your so called soul full relationship it may last and it may not and nowadays it’s the latter rather than the former. Never ever compromise your happiness, your personality and your mental stability and integrity for one idiotic or lost being , well I mean there are eight billion humans on planet earth for god sake you will find another one for sure but if you can help the idiotic ones please do help them. So live for yourself and love your family and if you get a chance do fall in love as that feeling to surrender yourself to a single person with body, mind and soul is something heavenly and it’s the creation god indeed.

then comes the mother of demons ‘Arrange marriages in India. If you think about it arrange marriage is one of the most flawed concepts which we possess as im gonna get married but my parents will decide the one for me. Well in a manner Indian parents act as it’s some kind of moral obligation they have towards their children but in reality it’s a really messed up thing Parents opening up accounts in matrimony sites is one of the most violating thing one can ever imagine. To all the parents out there if you are so into deciding your boy’s or girl’s partner take control of their dating sites Tinder and Grinder will accept you with open arms And most importantly know this that we don’t choose who we fall in love with and putting a name on it is your decision as such yours and yours only for now and for ever……….. Love is a weird thing as it makes ones life enough to seek Hadraniel and to ask him for refuge as he also stands defeated in the acts of love!

Black it up…or in our case maybe brown or Rainbow?

So as we all know what is happening around us nowadays starting from Corona virus and ending with riots. But the thing which caught everybody’s attention was the riot which started in USA and is now making ripples through out the world as the coveted movement of black lives matter. The words which came out of George Floyd’s mouth still haunt me in my dreams as he said “I can’t breathe officer, I can’t breathe, I wanna see my mama”. Nobody deserves to die like that I don’t know if he is guilty or not guilty but it’s wrong to take the precious and the most valuable right a being on this planet Earth has that is the right to breathe,as if you call yourself a human and if in your whole life you have seen in someone else’s eye and you have realized that this being loves me as a mother, brother, wife, husband, daughter, son, family, pet or a stranger as they love me because my heart’s still beating and my brain’s still functional so that I can share this love with someone else to make a world with the harmony of heaven. I know it’s a little bit of an utopia but still then reality starts and ends with belief and hope.

Through out the world there are millions and millions of people facing racism ever single day of their life starting from Breonna Taylor to Freddie Gray to Alton Sterling and many more whose name still remains in that veil of oblivion and the complications of corruption to hide this cruelty. Statistics also speaks for racism as such the increasing number of hate crimes, atrocities upon minorities are like the so called all time trending subject of world’s total information and news scenario. Homophobia, Trans phobia and racism are really concerned and perilous issues for this great civilization which we call humanity. It was really a great moment to see India to tear away that orthodox article 377 of Indian Constitution which made homosexuality illegal so in a manner it was a massive point of elation for those millions and millions of Indians who use to live in the shadows of fear and pain as unapprehended felon due to that cruel article which made the dance of horrors for so many years in this great country we call home. Well if you ask me it was a bright moment for India but still then homophobia goes deep in Indian soil starting from those atrocities with trans people on train rides to any person coming out in a so called traditional Indian orthodox family so it all has to change and we all know that it’s gonna take some time but we can hope can’t we. As at the end that’s all we have.

But what about India after all why is the world’s largest democracy is silent in this one a bit weird right! well I don’t think we are not doing anything because we are really conscious about the lock down or we are really obedient and stuff like that because we all know that protesting is in our blood so how come is this blood not working in this massive scenario of ignited souls through out the world but not in case of Indians. Well I guess we all know the answer that racism is something which goes quite casual and is rooted deep in India starting from Bollywood to commercials to cosmetics and to every house hold we all are quite aware of the value of being fair and white. I think everybody as growing up in India have heard the term gora(fair),saonla(brown) and kala(black) but trust me nobody cares or gives an importance towards the later two the only color we see is gora. Let me ask you something have you seen a single actor or actress in Bollwood who is lets say not super famous but is considered in bollywood being brown or black on purpose for a lead role well I haven’t maybe maximum in a tiny side role or worse a villain maybe and maybe shown in one movie and also that movie is a super hit and after that her/his/their era fades away in a very clean crystal manner so if we are going to debate my question then i guess we all can agree on the fact that we have a few but is that few participation of black and brown justified till 2020. Now if we come to house hold then we all know Indian neighbor are really deserving for the label of gossip girls or mean girls sometimes and the same for guys. So in a manner I’m disgusted by this whitewashing of every single thing which we have in public or which may come in public in this great subcontinent, I mean why can’t we see that color of the skin is nothing but just a reflection of what our genes are speaking for us what our ancestry has made for us and that is it, it is nothing I mean literally nothing more than that. We should realize and we should help others to realize this too that live your life in the way that you won’t have any regrets the moment you will be leaving this world. Accept who you truly are and let others do the same even if it’s really exciting to make fun of others but think about yourself in that person’s shoe before you do that then you will know how bad it is to do that to anyone. So live your life in a manner which makes you happy and other’s happy too because we don’t know that is there another life after this or not we only know this one so use it to be happy, sad, angry, passionate and everything by which you can be humane.
