Gardening – A great hobby

Gardening may be a fun and relaxing way to get in touch with nature, but did you know that it also has plenty of health benefits? Gardening is an activity that’s good for both the mind and body, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Plus, you get to eat the delicious fruits, vegetables and herbs that you grow. So, grab your tools and get in the dirt!

It only takes a little bit of gardening to work up a sweat. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, just 2.5 hours of moderate activity each week can help reduce the risk of many health problems, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes.

You may not think of gardening as exercise, but all the lifting, shoveling and raking involved definitely counts, says Raychel Santo, MA, senior research program coordinator for the Center for a Livable Future at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Your brain also benefits from time spent in the garden. Being outside in the fresh air and sunshine is an effective way to boost your mood and de-stress. In fact, gardening has shown to be helpful in reducing the risk of depression. If something is weighing heavily on your mind, gardening can allow you to focus on an activity that will bring you joy.

Don’t forget the health benefits that come from the produce you grow. Gardening is a simple way to get more fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet, and you’re sure to appreciate them even more because you grew them.

When it comes to deciding what to plant, it may be hard to know where to begin. But if you’re new to gardening, keep it simple with produce that’s easy to grow. Santo recommends herbs and greens such as lettuce, kale and collards.

Santo says these foods are not only easy for first-time gardeners, they are also full of important nutrients.

Gardening is also an excellent opportunity to try new healthy foods that will help you and your family become more adventurous eaters. Growing a variety of produce is as fun as it is healthy. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get it right the first time. Gardening requires some patience, but it’s worth it when you get to dig into a plate of your own fresh produce.

Make sure that you have the proper tools and gear for a safe gardening experience. Santo recommends wearing light, long-sleeved shirts and pants and a hat for protection from the sun, as well as slathering on sunscreen. Wearing gardening gloves is a must to keep yourself safe when pulling weeds and carrying out other tasks that could hurt your hands. And don’t forget to wear mosquito repellent.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons encourages gardeners to take regular breaks and drink enough water. Remember, this is exercise. The organization also suggests making the physical activity in gardening as easy as possible, from sitting on a garden stool to getting close to the objects you want to lift to reduce strain. Using a wheelbarrow is helpful for these kinds of tasks. Ask for help if something is too big or heavy to move by yourself, or if you’re unfamiliar with certain tools.

Soil safety is another thing to keep in mind. Santo notes that especially in urban and suburban areas, soil may be contaminated with heavy metals and other pollutants. Soil could also have tetanus bacteria, which is why it’s so important to wear gloves and stay up on vaccinations. That way, any cuts on your hands won’t get infected. It’s a good idea to get your soil tested before you start gardening.

Sex Education

What is sex? Is it normal to talk about it? Why sex education is important?

Avoidance of this topic, increased my willingness to write on this topic. I will try to cover up these questions in my article.

Sex is the most common word used for sexual intercourse, having various synonymous such as coitus, commerce, lovemaking, sexact etc. It is completely obvious for mammals to perform intercourse. It’s the reason for our existence, so why we avoid talking about it? It don’t make us inferior if we talk about it, it must be included in primary education . Yeah it take time to bring a change, we have saw addition of reproduction and menstrual cycle in our Academic syllabus in past decades, now we are looking forward to include sex education also soon.

I was 10 years old , when I got my first period. A blood stain on my white frock, I was amused and scared , my mother watched me out and I was told, ‘Ab tum badi ho gyi ho’ It felt like lot, like my life has just changed in few minutes, I was a tiny girl few minutes back and now I am an adult with responsibilities. It felt like lot to bear, my mum guided me with how to handle sanitary napkins and hygiene. Knowing the fact that all this new thing is going to happen now every month scared shit out of me. So this is the story how I came to know about Menstrual Cycle.

In 6th , a boy became good friend of mine , charming , cute boy. I used to talk to him a lot, and one day he held my hands out, it might seem no big thing to you, but it beacame my biggest fear. My periods were delayed and all I could think was Am I pregnant because my friend holded my hand. Hilarious? Offcourse it is. But yes, that’s were we lacked acknowledging the requirement of sex education in our schools and family. I could not talk about this to anyone, back in those years I was not aware of incognito so searching ‘delayed periods reason’ which would apper in the search history of my parents phone abstained me from searching it. So I was all alone with my miseries and fear. I was scared if my own family is going to accept me because my friend holded my hand that made me pregnant.

Luckily ,I got my periods a week later. I felt so relaxed, as if god has listened to my prayers and helped me out from the trauma. Remembering that incident still make me laugh, if someone could have just told be right reasons, I won’t be that lonely kid feeling guilty then. If family is supposed to be the closest, then these things should be made normal to talk about, we can’t just wait and avoid.

Sex education is required in family, society and at schools. We can just normalize out things instead of covering it up. We will see a better understanding upcoming generations , where things will be heard and solution will be well entertained and implemented.

You come alone in this world and go alone from this world. People often hear this, but how many give priority to themselves? How many people practice self-love? With the increasing social media trends where pseudo impeccability is depicted, self-love has become the rarest form of love. I am no one to give any kind of sermon, I am also a human being and I know how difficult it is to practice self-love in reality, but it is really important.

Why Self love is Difficult?

CHILDHOOD TRAUMAS
Childhood is the most essential stage of life. Some have a very mesmerizing childhood but some have to face body shaming, racism, abuse, violence etc. and when you become an adult you can imagine past reflections of them and these keep on haunting you again and again.
EMBARRASSING MOMENTS
Many times you say things that sound dumb. When you realize what dumb thing you said, you start underestimating yourself. This is the step towards self-loathing.
REGRETTING
Many chances come and go, but when you miss a golden opportunity, then you keep on regretting that. You doubt your capabilities.
 YOU HAVEN’T ACHIEVED ANYTHING GREAT TILL NOW
Whatever area you entered, you haven’t achieved anything except failures which resulted in self-hatred.

How to Practice Self Love?

☆If you don’t love yourself because of those embarrassing moments which happened in front of people then you have a wrong perception. They might have forgotten that and you are still stumbling upon that. JUST REMEMBER THAT NO ONE CARES. ☆If you lost that golden chance, it’s okay. Do remember that if you lost it, something big might surely be on its way.
☆If you have faced some childhood traumas, I know that none of us can forget them and this is the reality, but you can work on yourself and whenever they will haunt you will not self loathe. Start doing things which you like, if you don’t have any hobby start doing different things and you will surely end up having one. Start exercising not because of that body shaming, exercise will surely boost up your confidence.
☆Don’t forget if you haven’t achieved anything till now that does not mean that you will not do anything in life. This may be a misconception on your side, you may have achieved much more than you think, even the little things matter in life.
Hardly any one of us can become “GEET” from “JAB WE MET ” but just stop judging yourself, this society is already enough to judge you. It is easier to say than to implement but always remember that you are worth more than you think. Just introspect yourself, talk to yourself and ALL THINGS WILL FALL IN RIGHT PLACE.
