Basics Of Interior Designing

What is interior designing:

  • Interior designers work closely with architects, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, and construction laborers and helpers  to determine how interior spaces will function, look, and be furnished. Interior designers read blueprints and must be aware of building codes and inspection regulations.
  • Although some sketches or drawings may be freehand, most interior designers use computer-aided design (CAD) software for the majority of their drawings. Throughout the design process, interior designers often use building information modeling (BIM) software to create three-dimensional visualizations that include construction elements such as walls or roofs.
  • Many designers specialize in particular types of buildings, such as homes, hospitals, or hotels; specific rooms, such as bathrooms or kitchens; or a specific style. Some designers work for home-furnishings stores, providing design services to help customers choose materials and furnishings.
  • Some interior designers produce designs, plans, and drawings for construction and installation. These may include construction and demolition plans, electrical layouts, and plans needed for building permits. Interior designers may draft the preliminary design into documents that could be as simple as sketches, or as inclusive as construction documents with schedules and attachments.

The following are examples of types of interior designers:

  • Corporate designers create interior designs for professional workplaces from small office settings to large-scale corporations within high-rise buildings. They focus on creating spaces that are efficient, functional, and safe for employees. They may incorporate design elements that reflect a company’s brand in their designs.
  • Healthcare designers use the evidence-based design process in designing and renovating healthcare centers, clinics, doctors’ offices, hospitals, and residential care facilities. They specialize in making design decisions based on credible research to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients, residents, and the facility.
  • Kitchen and bath designers specialize in kitchens and bathrooms and have expert knowledge of the variety of cabinets, fixtures, appliances, plumbing, and electrical solutions for these rooms.
  • Sustainable designers use strategies to improve energy and water efficiencies and indoor air quality, and they specify environmentally preferable products, such as bamboo and cork for floors. They may obtain certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the U.S. Green Building Council. Such certification indicates expertise in designing buildings and spaces with sustainable practices in mind.
  • Universal designers renovate spaces in order to make them more accessible. Often, these designs are used to renovate spaces for elderly people and people with special needs; however, universal designs can benefit anyone. For example, an entranceway without steps may be necessary for someone in a wheelchair, but it is also helpful for someone pushing a baby stroller.

2) What is the role of a designer:

Interior designers typically do the following:

  • Search for and bid on new projects
  • Determine the client’s goals and requirements for the project
  • Consider how the space will be used and how people will move through the space
  • Sketch preliminary design plans, including electrical and partition layouts
  • Specify materials and furnishings, such as lighting, furniture, wall finishes, flooring, and plumbing fixtures
  • Create a timeline for the interior design project and estimate project costs
  • Place orders for materials and oversee the installation of the design elements
  • Oversee construction and coordinate with general building contractors to implement the plans and specifications for the project
  • Visit the site after the project is complete, to ensure that the client is satisfied

3) What is the design process:

Interior Design Process

The design process is the road map to realizing our vision for each of our clients, in a planned, organized, and coordinated documentation of all design elements, selections, and decisions made along the way. It ensures the contractor thoroughly understands the design plan and specifications.

PROGRAMMING:

This is our design exploration and brainstorming phase. The starting line for any interior design project. During this phase, we learn everything about YOU. Your lifestyle, your preferences, likes and dislikes, your needs, goals, and wishes for your new space. It’s important for us to see through your eyes if we want to create something you love.

Throughout the programming process we:
• Discuss your project in detail, document all areas involved,
• Discuss your style preferences and ideas. ( We encourage you to gather tear sheets from a magazine or online sources to better communicate your ideas.)
• Conduct a site visit to measure, photograph and record existing conditions.
• Establish a preliminary budget
• Obtain, if available, a set of architectural plans from you or your architect.

SPACE PLANS & DESIGN CONCEPT:

Space planning is a prerequisite of any well-designed space. We meet and talk many times throughout this phase of the project. Meetings are held with clients to discuss various elements of the design.

Throughout this phase we:
• Establish interior design concept and overall creative direction.
• Create sketches and gather tear sheets to communicate and clarify design intent.
• Create preliminary floor plans
• Select the finishes we will be using.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT:

During the design development phase, the approved design concept is refined and developed into more detailed drawings to include:
• Floorplans
• Elevations
• Reflected ceiling plans
• Selection of materials and finishes
• Furniture Plans
• Selection of furniture and furnishings

FINAL DESIGN AND SPECIFICATIONS PHASE:

Once the design plans have been approved, we will start preparing final design drawings and specifications.

This phase includes:
• Making all required changes or revisions to drawings
• Generating final drawings with all specifications
• Creating all material and finishing schedules.

CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION:

The final stage of the project. After all of the planning, sketching, and meetings, we finally begin construction and remodeling work on the space! We turn our concepts and pictures into the real thing. This phase of the design project can vary in length depending on the extent of the work needed.

Throughout this phase, we:

Why chocolates Are Good for Health

Chocolates contain anandamide, which as one might guess, comes from the Sanskrit word “ananda”, meaning happiness, joy and delight. Chocolates also contain the chemical compound phenylethylamine, which is said to enhance our feelings of love.

Chocolate is made from tropical Theobroma cacao tree seeds. Its earliest use dates back to the Olmec civilization in Mesoamerica. After the European discovery of the Americas, chocolate became very popular in the wider world, and its demand exploded.

Chocolate has since become a popular food product that millions enjoy every day, thanks to its unique, rich, and sweet taste.

 Facts on chocolate:

  • Chocolate consumption has long been associated with conditions such as diabetes, coronary heart disease and hypertension.
  • Chocolate is believed to contain high levels of  antioxidants.
  • Some studies have suggested chocolate could lower  cholesterol levels and prevent memory decline.
  • Chocolate contains a large number of calories.
  • People who are seeking to lose or maintain weight should eat chocolate only in moderation.

Eating chocolate may have the following benefits:

  • Reduces stress:

Studies have found evidence that Polyphenols contained in cocoa used to prepare chocolates can reduce stress. Both dark chocolate and milk chocolate contain such polyphenols. Stress is said to signal an increase in oxidative damage to our systems. The antioxidants in chocolate neutralise this oxidative damage caused by free radicals and reduces stress.

  • Beneficial for the brain and improve its function:

Chocolate contains flavanols, which are antioxidant molecules that help in the optimisation of our brain’s functions and potential. Flavonols protect the neurons in the brain and increase our cognitive abilities concerning memory and learning. A study of healthy volunteers showed that eating high-flavanol cocoa for five days improved blood flow to the brain.

  • Reduces risk of heart diseases:

As per research, consumption of dark chocolate, in particular, has been linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and stroke. Dark chocolate keeps our blood vessels dilated and aids in normal blood flow.Yet another study showed that eating dark chocolate more than 5 times per week lowered the risk of heart disease by 57% .

  • Protects the kidneys:

Dark chocolate was found to have protective effects on our kidneys. The flavanols in dark chocolate help maintain proper renal tissue oxygenation which is essential for the functioning of the kidneys.

·         Powerful Source of Antioxidants:

Dark chocolate is loaded with organic compounds that are biologically active and function as antioxidants. These include polyphenols, flavanols and catechins, among others. One study showed that dark chocolate had more antioxidant activity, polyphenols and flavonoids.

  • Protect the Skin from the Sun:

The bioactive compounds in dark chocolate may also be great for the skin. The flavanol’s can protect against sun damage, improve blood flow to the skin and increase skin density and hydration. Studies show that the flavanols from cocoa can improve blood flow to the skin and protect it from sun damage.

The darker the chocolate, the higher the concentration of cocoa, and so, in theory, the higher the level of antioxidants there will be in the bar.

However, nutrients vary widely in commercially available chocolate bars, depending on the brand and type you choose. It is best to check the label if you want to be sure of the nutrients.

Top 5 Ways to Fix Slow Internet after Windows 10 Update

1.Adjust the Internet Bandwidth Settings:

Since windows 10, with the aid of  using default ,reserves 20% of the Internet bandwidth for the system applications and its operating system, you can’t browse or surf on the Internet with 100% Internet connection. This solution speeds up the dropping Internet speed by trimming down the bandwidth which is reserved for Windows 10 and system applications. Follow the step-by-step guide to tackle slow Internet after Windows 10 Update.

Step 1. Press Windows shortcut keys Windows + R to open Run dialog box.

Step 2. Type gpedit.msc and then hit OK.

Step 3. Give permissions. A pop-up window will open with title of Group Policy.

Step 4. Click on Computer Configuration on the right side of the window.

Step 5. Navigate to: Administrative Templates >Network >Qos Packet Scheduler >Limit reservable bandwidth.

Step 6. Click on Enable.

Step 7. Change the Value from 20 to 0.

Step 8. Apply and after which click OK.

2.Uninstall

The maximum apparent solution to this problem is uninstalling the update itself. Since the new Windows 10 update is causing trouble, the easiest thing to do is to uninstall it and hold off updating your operating system until a newer update is released. Once uninstalled, Windows users have reported that the issues they are facing decease to exist.

The procedure of uninstalling a Windows 10 update is pretty simple. Open Settings then click Update & Security. A window will appear from which you should choose Windows Update and then View update history. Select Uninstall Updates. You have successfully uninstalled the present update that was downloaded and it should, hopefully, fix your internet problem.

3. Disable Updates

Windows has an option called ‘Peer to Peer Updates’ which can be useful for those who are too busy to download Updates and keep their system up-to-date. However, for some, it can wreak havoc. Since these updates download automatically without informing the user, they use 90 percent of the internet bandwidth causing your internet connection to be slow during this Windows 10 update.

The apparent solution is turning these Peer to Peer Updates off by doing the following. Go to Settings and then Update & Security. Choose the first option called ‘Windows Update’. Click Advanced Options. Select Delivery Optimization. Now, turn Allow Downloads from other PC(s) OFF. This will disable future automatic updates.

4.Update Your Network Drivers:

Some unexpected driver errors may happen when upgrade to new Windows OS. Outdated, missing or incorrect network drivers may result in limiting internet speed. To rule out that possibility, you might as well turn to a professional driver updater utility tool, like Driver Talent, which is able to match the compatible drivers for your computer and download them automatically within two minutes. All the drivers are collected from the official source (original manufacturers and Microsoft) and they are safe and well tested.

5. Disable the firewall:

Windows 10 has an excellent feature which is a built-in firewall. Firewalls are integral for the security of your malware, however, sometimes, firewalls can slow down your Internet speeds and can be the culprit of limiting your bandwidth.

Many people criticize this option, but it seems to work for multiple users. Windows 10 has excellent features; it is a built-in firewall. A firewall is an indispensable part of malware security. However, sometimes a firewall may slow down the Internet speed and may be the culprit in limiting bandwidth. You can test the theory by disabling the firewall, and if it speeds up, you only need to switch to a third-party firewall instead of the built-in Windows 10 firewall.

What is Dyspraxia?

Dyspraxia is a common neurological or brain-related disorder, which affects movement and coordination. People suffering from Dyspraxia face problems in everything that needs coordination. For example, playing games or learning to drive. It does not affect your intelligence, but it does affect your fine motor skills which can include writing or using small objects.

This disorder affects a person’s capacity to make smooth and easy movements. Sometimes if a baby is born earlier than the normal time, there are more chances of the child developing this disorder. Studies also show that Dyspraxia is more common among men than women.

Symptoms Of Dyspraxia:

Some symptoms of this disorder have been explained on the Nation Health Service (NHS) website of the UK. It can have different effects on different people and keeps changing with time. A person can face many problems due to this disease. Some of them are listed below.

  • Problem in coordination, balance and movement
  • Problem in learning a new thing, which includes remembering information
  • Daily routine issues, like wearing clothes or preparing food
  • Issues in writing, using keyboard and in holding small items
  • Social awkwardness or lack of self-confidence and difficulty in dealing with emotions
  • Bad time management and organizational skills
  • Some people may also suffer from memory, perception and processing situation

There is no treatment for Dyspraxia but therapy helps people cope with the issues they face in daily life. Occupational therapy is used to find ways to enable a person to be independent and perform daily chores like writing or cooking. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) named talking therapy is used to help people change their way of thinking and behaving and start managing their problems.

Do regular exercise to remain fit and healthy, use laptop or computer in case of problems in writing, use of a calendar, dairy or pp to organize things and thinking positively may help. It is not unusual for a person to be suffering from other issues along with Dyspraxia like ADH, Autism spectrum disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, dyscalculia and dyslexia.

Diagnosis of Dyspraxia:

A diagnosis of dyspraxia can be made by a clinical psychologist, an educational psychologist, a pediatrician, or an occupational therapist   Any parent who suspects their child may have dyspraxia should see doctor.

When carrying out an assessment, details will be required regarding the child’s developmental history, intellectual ability, and gross and fine motor skills:

  • Gross motor skills – how well the child uses large muscles that coordinate body movement, including jumping, throwing, walking, running, and maintaining balance.
  • Fine motor skills – how well the child can use smaller muscles, including tying shoelaces, doing up buttons, cutting out shapes with a pair of scissors, and writing.

The evaluator will need to know when and how developmental milestones, such as walking, crawling, and speaking were reached. The child will be evaluated for balance, touch sensitivity, and variations on walking activities.

Treatments for dyspraxia:

Although dyspraxia is not curable, with treatment, the individual can improve. However, the earlier a child is diagnosed, the better their prognosis will be. The following specialists most commonly treat people with dyspraxia:

  • Occupational therapy:

An occupational therapist will evaluate how the child manages with everyday functions both at home and at school. They will then help the child develop skills specific to daily activities which they find difficult.

  • Speech and language therapy:

The speech-language pathologist will conduct an assessment of the            child’s speech, and then implement a treatment plan to help them to communicate more effectively.

  • Perceptual motor training:

This involves improving the child’s language, visual, movement, and auditory skills. The individual is set a series of tasks that gradually become more advanced – the aim is to challenge the child so that they improve, but not so much that it becomes frustrating or stressful.

  • Active Play

Experts say the active play any play that involves physical activity –which can be outdoors or inside the home, helps improve motor activity. Play is a way children learn about the environment and about themselves, and particularly for children aged 3-5; it is a crucial part of their learning.

Active play is where a very young child’s physical and emotional learning, their development of language, their special awareness, the development of what their senses are, all come together. The more children are involved in active play, the better they will become at interacting with other children successfully.

Women at a Higher Risk of Stroke Says a Study And Prevention Of Stroke In Women

  • Strokes are known as “brain attacks.” When blood flow stops to an area of the brain, the cells receive less oxygen, similar to what occurs during a heart attack. When brain cells can’t get enough oxygen, they die. Strokes generally fall in one of two categories,” Dr. Achieng says. “Ischemic strokes occur when a blood clot in a vessel stops blood flow to the brain. Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel bursts and bleeds into the surrounding brain tissue. Certain factors in women can lead to both types of stroke.
  • According to a study presented by European Stroke Organization (ESO) Conference, there is a rising heart attack and stroke among women than men. This is due to work stress, sleep disorders, fatigue, which are usually termed as non-traditional risk factors for heart attack and stroke.
  • While diabetes, arterial hypertension, raised cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity are recognized modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease, recently, it has been noted that non-traditional risk factors such as work pressures and sleep problems can significantly add to cardiovascular risk. Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death in women and kills more women than men. In fact, one in five women has a stroke.
  • Traditionally men have been perceived to be more affected by heart attacks and strokes than women.
  • But, the “study found men were more likely to smoke and be obese than women, but females reported a bigger increase in the non-traditional risk factors for heart attacks and strokes, such as work stress, sleep disorders, and feeling tired and fatigued”, said Dr Martin Hansel, Neurologist at the University Hospital Zurich, and her team.
  • “This increase coincides with the number of women working full time. Juggling work and domestic responsibilities or other socio-cultural aspects may be a factor, as well as specific health demands of women that may not be accounted for in our daily ‘busy’ lives,” Hansel added.
  • High blood pressure is the leading cause of stroke and is the main cause for increased risk of stroke among people with diabetes.
  • Researchers compared data from 22,000 men and women in the Swiss Health Survey from 2007, 2012, and 2017, and found an “alarming” rise in the number of women reporting the non-traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The trend coincided with an increase in the number of women working full-time from 38 per cent in 2007 to 44 per cent in 2017.
  • Overall, in both sexes, the number reporting stress at work rose from 59 per cent in 2012 to 66 per cent in 2017, and those reporting feeling tired and fatigued increased from 23 per cent to 29 per cent (to 33 per cent in women and 26 per cent in men).
  • Over the same period, the number reporting sleep disorders went up from 24 per cent to 29 per cent, with severe sleep disorders also rising more sharply in women (8 per cent) than in men (5 per cent).
  • However, the research also found the traditional risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease had remained stable in the same time period, with 27 per cent suffering from hypertension, 18 per cent with raised cholesterol and 5 per cent with diabetes. Obesity increased to 11 per cent and smoking decreased from approximately 10.5 to 9.5 cigarettes per day, but both were more prevalent in men.

Stroke prevention in women:

With so many factors that can raise the risk of stroke in women, are there ways to prevent them?

The same steps you take to improve your heart health will also reduce your stroke risk, Dr. Achieng says. Your doctor may recommend taking a daily dose of aspirin because it thins the blood and reduces clotting, but that will depend on the individual.

Stroke prevention tips:

  • Eat healthier
  • Exercise regularly
  • Aim to lower blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Quit smoking
  • Reach a healthy weight
  • Take rest

5 Easy Yoga Exercises To Beat Stress

Meditation, good sleeping routine and stretching  helps one to focus and relax but when anxiety starts to creep in or during times of stress, many people turn to Yoga . It might seem contradictory but by exercising and putting physical stress on one’s body, mental tensions can be relieved.

Yoga is a form of exercise that combines stretching, breathing, relaxation and meditation and has various asana or body postures that include sitting meditation pose, reclining, standing, inverted, twisting and balancing poses to overcome all kinds of sufferings and lead to ‘the state of liberation’ (Moksha) or ‘freedom’ (Kaivalya) and self-realisation. Studies have often suggested that Yoga can enhance mood and according to some researches, it may even be as effective as antidepressant drugs at treating depression and anxiety.

Yoga practice helps lower stress and anxiety by releasing endorphins, improving sleep pattern and self-image. Hence, people who do Yoga regularly are less likely to experience anxiety as compared to those who don’t since benefits of the asana are strongest when one performs them regularly.

Looking for some calming poses to deal with anxiety or stress disorder, check below for the steps and benefits of 5 easy-to-do Yoga asana at home to get promising results.

1.Sukhasana or easy pose:

Method: Sit on a Yoga mat or on the floor with your legs stretched out. Bend one of your legs and place it under the opposite thigh and repeat the same with the other leg.

Sit erect, keep your head, neck and trunk aligned in a straight line, put your hands on your knees or thighs in Chin Mudra or Jnana Mudra. Turn your palms up to be receptive or down to feel grounded and inhaling slowly, feel your spine grow long while on exhaling, root down through your seat.

Benefits: Apart from finding stillness and tranquility, this asana relieves muscle and joint pains as it helps the practitioner in maintaining a good posture, gives flexibility, keeps the back straight and provides strength to the legs. This in turn lengthens the back muscles and spine, broadens the collarbones and chest, stretches the external aspect of the knees and unlocks the hips.

2. Balasana or Child’s Pose or Child’s Resting Pose:

Method: Sit on your heels on the floor or a yoga mat and keep your knees either together or wide apart. Slowly, exhale and bend forward to touch the floor with your forehead or rest it on a block or two stacked fists while keeping your arms alongside your body and palms facing up. Alternatively, you can keep your palms facing down on the mat by reaching out your arms towards the front of the yoga mat. Now, if your knees are together, gently press your chest on the thighs or press your chest between the thighs if the knees are apart.

Relax the shoulders, jaw and eyes and find a comfortable place for the forehead as there is an energy point at its center, in between the eyebrows, that supports a “rest and digest” response by stimulating the vagus nerve. Hold onto the pose for as long as you like and pull your navel towards your spine while inhaling and softening your body and the arms while exhaling. Return to the sitting position on the heels slowly while inhaling and as if uncurling the spine.

Benefits: This beginner’s Yoga pose not only helps to reduce stress and anxiety by helps releasing the tension in the chest, back and shoulders but also helps if you have a bout of dizziness or fatigue during the day or during your workout. It can help relieve back pain as it is a gentle stretch for the back, hips, thighs and ankles.

Precautions: This exercise is not recommended for pregnant women or those suffering from diarrhea or knee injury.

3.  Savasana/Shavasana or corpse pose:

Method: Lie on your back with your legs straight and arms relaxed at your sides. Gently close your eyes while keeping your feet a comfortable distance apart in a natural position and keep your arms straight along the body but away from the torso while resting your palms facing up.

Breathe naturally, allow your body to feel heavy on the ground and focus all your attention on your toes. Then shift your attention and begin to release each part of your body, organ and cell, consciously working from the toes up to the top of your head. Bring your mind gently back to your body if it wanders.

Be sure that you do not fall asleep and relax your face, feeling your eyes drop into your sockets and the softening of your jaw. Draw your attention to the sounds around you and try to find the most distant one until you find the sound closest to you.

When you feel relaxed, exit the pose by gently bringing your awareness back to your body and wriggle your fingers and toes while still keeping your eyes closed. Draw your knees in and slowly roll over to one side in sukhasana pose. Rest there for a moment in a comfortable seated position and open your eyes gently while slowly turning your attention outwards.

Benefits: Shavasana along with deep breathing relaxes the nervous system more than any other Yoga asana and this instantly brings down the body temperature. It relieves stress, repairs cells, relaxes the body and helps self-healing without pills for pregnant women.

4. Matsyasana or the Fish Pose:

Method: Lie down on your back with legs straight on the floor and hands beside the thighs. Keep your palms near the shoulders and your fingers pointing towards them. Inhale, press your palms on the floor, lift your shoulders and head up and drop the top of the head on the floor.

Arch your back while keeping your hands up in namaskar mudra. Lift both of your legs at 45 degrees’ angle. Hold the posture for 10 seconds and release.

Benefits: This exercise has multiple benefits. From stretching the chest, abs, hip flexors and neck to stimulating two important areas of the body. First is the throat chakra which relates to communication and self-expression and second is the crown chakra, on the top of your head, which is tied to wisdom and knowledge.

Precautions: Avoid this pose if you have a neck or back injury or even if you have a headache.

5. Vrikshasana or tree pose:

Method: Balance yourself on one leg, with the other one folded and supported on your inner thigh. Stretch out your hands above your head and point them directly upwards.

Clasp them together in anjali mudra. Gaze in the distance, shift the weight to your left leg while keeping the right knee bent in half lotus position and hold onto this posture for a few seconds before releasing and repeating the same with the alternate leg.

Benefits: This asana helps to bring balance to your mind and body. It makes your legs stronger and is a great hip opener as assists it the body in establishing pelvic stability and strengthens the bones of the hips and legs.

The shift of the entire body’s weight to each leg strengthens the ligaments and tendon of the feet. It also helps strengthen the thighs, calves and ankles and and helps improve focus.

Precautions: This asana should be avoided by those who suffer from vertigo or migraine or insomnia issues.

Google Doodle honors Rudolf Weigl On his Birth Anniversary –You must know about Polish Biologist

  • Google on Thursday celebrated the 138th birth anniversary of Polish inventor, doctor, and immunologist Rudolf Weigl with a doodle. Weigl had produced the first effective vaccine against epidemic typhus—one of humanity’s oldest and most infectious diseases.
  • Thursday’s doodle shows Weigl holding a test tube in his gloved hands. There are drawings of lice on the wall on the right side and a human body and some more lice on the left. The illustrator has spelled out Google with all that is used in a lab for testing purpose.
  • Rudolf Stefan Jan Weigl was born in the modern-day Czech Republic in the year 1883. He completed his graduation in biological sciences from the Lwow University in Poland in 1907. Not only that, he earned doctorate degrees in subjects such as zoology, comparative anatomy, and histology.
  • During World War I, typhus was wreaking havoc in Europe and had killed millions in no time. Weigl decided to take matters into his own hands and do research on the disease. He found that the root cause of it was lice that carried the infection. He grew it in his laboratory and squashed their stomachs to create the vaccine.
  • By 1933, large-scale testing of the vaccine took place after several years of modification.
  • While this work is exemplary, his role in saving around 5000 jews in the Nazi ghettos makes him a prominent figure in history. When Nazi Germany heard about him, they asked Weigl to create a Typhus vaccine manufacturing plant. For that, he hired many of his Jewish colleagues and friends so that they do not get deported to the concentration camps.
  • Weigl went on to study biological sciences at Poland’s Lwów University and was appointed as a parasitologist in the Polish Army in 1914. As millions across Eastern Europe were plagued by typhus, Weigl became determined to stop its spread.
  • Body lice were known to carry the typhus-infecting bacteria Rickettsia prowazekii, so Weigl adapted the tiny insect into a laboratory specimen. His innovative research revealed how to use lice to propagate the deadly bacteria which he studied for decades with the hope of developing a vaccine. In 1936, Weigl’s vaccine successfully inoculated its first beneficiary. When Germany occupied Poland during the outbreak of the Second World War, Weigl was forced to open a vaccine production plant. He used the facility to hire friends and colleagues at risk of persecution under the new regime.
  • An estimated 5,000 people were saved due to Weigl’s work during this period–both due to his direct efforts to protect his neighbors and to the thousands of vaccine doses distributed nationwide. Today, Weigl is widely lauded as a remarkable scientist and hero. His work has been honored by not one but two Nobel Prize nominations.
  • For creating the vaccine and humanitarian work, Weigl was nominated for the Nobel Prize twice. However, due to interference both times, he did not become the recipient. He breathed his last in 1957. However, in 2003, Israel honored him with the title called ‘Righteous Among the Nations’ for his contribution.

India has approved Zydus Cadila’s First Covid-19 vaccine for children

  • Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D Covid-19 vaccine is the world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine against the coronavirus.
  • Indian drug regulator DCGI approved Zydus Cadila’s three-dose COVID-19 DNA vaccine for emergency use in adults and children aged 12 years and above, bringing in the sixth vaccine authorized for use in the country.
  • India has now approved its first vaccine for children, a timely move amid warnings of an upcoming third wave in the country, which some experts have warned could be deadlier towards children. While the Union Health Ministry has refuted that the next wave of the pandemic would prove more serious to the ‘vulnerable and unvaccinated’ population comprising children, it has, at the same time, augmented pediatric services across the nation as a preventive measure.
  • The company said it plans to manufacture 100 million to 120 million doses of ZyCoV-D annually and has started to stockpile the vaccine.
  • The generic drug maker, listed as Cadila Healthcare Ltd, applied for the authorization of ZyCoV-D on July 1, based on an efficacy rate of 66.6% in a late-stage trial of over 28,000 volunteers nationwide.
  • “Interim results from Phase-III Clinical Trials, in over 28,000 volunteers, showed primary efficacy of 66.6 per cent for symptomatic RT-PCR positive cases,” said a government release, adding that this has been the largest vaccine trial so far in India for COVID-19.
  • “This vaccine had already exhibited robust immunogenicity and tolerability and safety profile in the adaptive Phase I/II clinical trials carried out earlier. Both the Phase I/II and Phase III clinical trials have been monitored by an independent Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB),” it said.
  • ZyCoV-D is the world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine against the coronavirus. It uses a section of genetic material from the virus that gives instructions as either DNA or RNA to make the specific protein that the immune system recognizes and responds to.
  • Zydus Cadila’s vaccine, developed in partnership with the Department of Biotechnology, is the second home-grown shot to get emergency authorization in India after Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
  • The drug maker said in July its COVID-19 vaccine was effective against the new coronavirus mutants, especially the Delta variant, and that the shot is administered using a needle-free applicator as opposed to traditional syringes.
  • Earlier today, the Indian drug regulator’s subject expert committee had recommended emergency use approval for the vaccine. The committee had added that Zydus needs to submit additional data for the 2-dose regimen of its vaccine.
  • Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V vaccines are being given to only those above 18 years and unlike ZyCoV-D, which is three-dose, these are administered in two doses.
  • The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has said that ZyCoV-D is the world’s first DNA-based vaccine against the coronavirus and when injected produces the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and elicits an immune response, which plays a vital role in protection from the disease as well as viral clearance.
  • The vaccine had already exhibited robust immunogenicity and tolerability and safety profile in the adaptive phase one and two clinical trials. Both Phase one/two and Phase three clinical trials have been monitored by an independent data safety monitoring board, it added.
  • The Union government is expecting Zydus Cadila’s needle-free COVID-19 vaccine ZyCoV-D to be available from the first week of October in India.

Malaria: Signs and Symptoms, Tips to prevent the disease

Malaria is associated with a bite from the female Anopheles mosquito and in a few cases, can cause serious health complications. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease of humans and other animals caused by protists (a type of microorganism) of the genus Plasmodium.

The term malaria originates from Medieval Italian: mala aria — “bad air”; the disease was formerly called ague or marsh fever due to its association with swamps and marshland. Malaria was once common in most of Europe and North America, where it is no longer endemic, though imported cases do occur.

The disease is most common in tropical and subtropical climates (hot and humid) where the parasites can live and are generally active.

 Types of malaria:

Parasites of the genus Plasmodium cause malaria. There are many species of the malaria parasite Plasmodium. However, only five of them infect humans. These are:

– Plasmodium falciparum: Found in tropical and subtropical areas and is a major contributor to deaths from severe malaria.

– Plasmodium vivax: Mostly found in Asia and Latin America. It involves a dormant stage that can cause relapses.

– Plasmodium ovale: Found in Africa and the Pacific islands.

– Plasmodium malariae: Found worldwide and can cause a chronic infection.

– Plasmodium knowlesi: Found throughout Southeast Asia. It can rapidly progress from an uncomplicated case to severe malaria infection.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: Incubation period refers to how long it takes from initial infection to the appearance of symptoms.

This generally depends on the type of parasite:

 · P. falciparum – 9 to 14 days

· P. vivax – 12 to 18 days · P. ovale – 12 to 18 days

· P. malariae – 18 to 40 days However, incubation periods can vary from as little as 7 days, to several months for P. vivax and P. ovale. If you are taking medication to prevent infection (chemoprophylaxis) the incubation period is usually longer.

The signs and symptoms of malaria typically begin 8–25 days following infection; signs include:

· Decreased consciousness

· Significant weakness such that the person is unable to walk

· Inability to feed

· Two or more convulsions

 · Low blood pressure (less than 70 mmHg in adults or 50 mmHg in children)

 · Breathing problems

 · Circulatory shock

 · Kidney failure or hemoglobin in the urine

· Pulmonary edema

Prevention:

The best way to prevent malaria is to keep our home and surroundings clean. Having a strong civic sense is the best way to ensure safety from malaria.

1.Fog them out:

Get fogging in your neighborhood done before the rainy season starts as it helps to kill the mosquitoes that might be hiding at places.

2. Choose the right clothes:

Make sure you choose the right clothing to prevent malaria. Wear cover-alls, full-sleeved clothes, long pants that can help prevent mosquito bites.

3.Use mosquito repellent products:

You can use various over-the-counter mosquito repellant creams and bands. The same will help keep you safeguarded even when you are sitting in a garden or outside playing.

4.Use mosquito nets:

This is the simplest and ineffective way of keeping the mosquitoes away. A person is most vulnerable when they are sleeping. Using mosquito nets neither exposes you to harmful mosquito chemicals nor does it harm your body.

5.Use window nets:

Cover your windows well and keep them closed.

6. Keep your surroundings clean:

Keeping your surroundings clean is one of the best-recommended methods to prevent yourself from malaria. While travelling, make sure that you avoid loitering around.

TRANSMISSION:

Vectors: Plasmodium may exploit several genera of mosquitoes, as vectors and intermediate

hosts

· Culex

· Anopheles,

· Culiceta

· Mansonia and

· Aedes

i. Bites of mosquitoes,

ii. Mechanically by blood transfer as in mass vaccination,

iii. Caponization and injection.

Malaria  parasites  are  transmitted  from  person  to  person  through  Anopheles  mosquitoes.

When a mosquito bites, blood containing the parasites is taken into the mosquito’s gut. Over a

period of 10 or more days, the parasites undergo a complex development, the mature parasite

eventually coming to reside in the mosquito’s salivary glands, ready for transmission to a new

person  when  it  bites  again.  In  the  next  human  host,  the  parasite  first  infects  the  liver,

undergoes rapid replication in this site for at least five days, and then infects red blood cells.

It is in the  blood  that the parasites causes  the  most serious symptoms of  malaria,  including

cerebral malaria initiated by parasitised blood cells blocking blood capillaries in the brain.

Women need more calcium, Says Research

Calcium is a nutrient that all living organisms need, including humans. It is the most abundant mineral in the body, and it is vital for bone health.

Getting enough calcium is a good idea, since women are far more likely than men to develop osteoporosis — a condition of weak and fragile bones that makes you prone to fractures.

It’s important to protect your bone strength and guard against fractures as you age, but taking a supplement isn’t the best way to do that, says an expert.

Women already have lesser bone tissue than men to begin with, but this reduction in absorption of calcium only gets more accelerated, as we approach menopause due to the dramatic change in estrogen levels. What’s more, those women who have hormonal issues such as thyroid might find themselves even more susceptible to bone issues.

While taking calcium supplements may produce unwanted side effects, meeting your calcium needs through your diet is safe. “Most people can get adequate calcium through their diet if they make an effort.”

Women ages 19 to 50 should consume 1,000 milligrams of calcium a day, and the target for women over 50 is 1,200 milligrams per day.

Good dietary sources of calcium include:

  • Almonds.
  • Soybeans.
  • Low-fat dairy such as milk and yogurt.
  • Leafy green vegetables such as kale and spinach.
  • Seeds mix.
  •  Lentils.
  •  Fish, especially salmon.

So, up your intake of these foods to keep your bones healthy. At the same time, remember to get more vitamin D from the sun and also from your diet, because calcium can’t be digested as efficiently by your body without the help of the sunshine vitamin.

We may be creatures of habit with favorite seats in the library but information retention actually improves when you vary the places where you study.

11.Practice, Practice, Practice:

Practice makes you perfect. Practicing sample answers to past exam questions can help train your brain to retrieve information. Create realistic, exam-like condition and test your understanding.

12.Don’t Stay Up All Night Before an Exam:

Make sure to get adequate rest the nights leading up to your exams. When you sleep, your brain assimilates the information you have learned when studying so getting a good night’s sleep will help you remember.

13.Discover News Ways to Learn:

Trying new study methods can help you find what really works for you. Use technology to your advantage by watching educational TED Talks or downloading useful dictionary applications.

14.Group study:

Studying in a group can help you collect new insights to enhance your learning experience. Our Groups study helps you share resources, discuss ideas and interact with members of your team or group project.

15.Use Scents or Gum to Jog Your Memory:

This may seem a bit random but spraying an unfamiliar scent while you’re studying is one of the study methods that can help jog your memory when you spray it again just before an exam. Chewing a strange kind of gum will work the same way.

Sleep Deprivation

Sleep is an important body function required for mental and physical well-being. The amount of sleep required changes with age in an inverse manner. For example, an infant may sleep up to 18-20 hours, whereas someone more than 80 years may need only a few hours of sleep. Lack of recommended 7 to 8 hours (for an adult).

  • The long-term effects of sleep deprivation can drain mental abilities and affect physical health, varying from weight gain to a weakened immune system. Long-term sleep deprivation also increases the risk for chronic conditions, such as diabetes mellitus, stroke, and heart disease.
  • Lack of sleep affects the two types of hormones one is leptin and the other is ghrelin. Talking about Leptin which tells the brain that you’ve had enough to eat. Due to not getting proper sleep your brain reduces leptin and raises ghrelin, which is an appetite stimulant.
  • It is also found that sleep deprivation can lowers the body’s tolerance for glucose and is associated with insulin resistance, which can control feelings of hunger and fullness. Also, these disruptions can lead to diabetes mellitus and obesity.

Causes of sleep deprivation:

  • Disturbances in physical or mental health can cause sleep problems. Also, unsuitable bedroom environments like the extremes of temperature, noise level, or improper lighting can contribute to sleep deprivation.
  • Drinking an excessive amount of caffeine, stimulant medication, smoking and alcohol can adversely impact sleep.
  • Certain mental health conditions like anxiety disorder, depression, substance misuse can cause insomnia.
  • A night-time breathing disorder called obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) can interrupt sleep and lower the quality of sleep. It is a common condition mainly seen in obese people. Common symptom is of loud snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Consequences of Sleep Deprivation:

The effects of sleep deprivation and sleep deficiency can be serious and far-reaching.

  • Diabetes: Insufficient sleep appears to affect the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar, increasing the risk of metabolic conditions like diabetes.
  • Obesity: Research has found that people tend to consume more calories and carbohydrates. when they don’t get enough sleep, which is just one of several ways that poor sleep may be tied to obesity and problems maintaining a healthy weight.
  • Immunodeficiency: Sleep deficiency has been shown to lead to worsened immune function, including a poorer response to vaccines.
  • Mental health disorders: Sleep and mental health are closely intertwined, and poor sleep has strong assoiations with conditions like depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

Symptoms and signs:

  • irritability, lack of concentration
  • daytime fatigue
  • increased accidents
  • excessive daytime sleepiness
  • frequent yawning

Treatment:

The asleep study is a useful diagnostic tool performed at home to aid the exact cause of sleep problems. The treatment will depend on the cause. Sleep hygiene is an important aspect of the treatment and most of these are simple, yet very effective self-help measures.

  • Maintain bedtime routine by sleeping and waking at the same time
  • Ensure that the room environment is conducive to sleep
  • Stick to your bedtime routine during weekends and holidays
  • Avoid daytime naps
  • Say no to caffeine past 4 pm
  • Avoiding heavy meals within a few hours before bedtime
  • Avoid using electronic devices at least 2 hours before bedtime
  • Exercise regularly, but not 3 hours before bedtime
  • Reduce alcohol intake

If the above measures fail to improve the sleep problem, then a combination of psychological counselling using cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and a short course of medication is recommended. The choice of medication will depend on the underlying cause of sleep deprivation. Long-term sleeping pills or sedatives have a negative impact on sleep which may lead to further mental health complications.

Things You Should Know About Dengue Fever – Prevention And Control

With the onset of monsoon, like every year, spread of vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue is on rise. Currently there is a rise increasing cases of dengue and malaria. Monsoon can cause a surge in dengue cases due to the increase in mosquito breeding surroundings. The monsoon season is here and so being the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. While talking about mosquito-borne diseases

Dengue:

Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of an “Aedes” mosquito infected with a dengue virus. The mosquito becomes infected when it bites a person with dengue virus in their blood. It can’t be spread directly from one person to another person.

Symptoms of Dengue Fever:

Symptoms, which usually begin four to six days after infection and last for up to 10 days, may include

  • Sudden,  high fever.
  • Pain behind the eyes.
  • Severe joint and muscle pain.
  • Fatigue.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Skin rash, which appears two to five days after the onset of fever.

Severe dengue:

A patient enters what is called the critical phase normally about 3-7 days after illness onset. It is at this time, when the fever is dropping (below 38°C/100°F) in the patient, that warning signs associated with severe dengue can manifest. Severe dengue is a potentially fatal complication, due to plasma leaking, fluid accumulation, respiratory distress, severe bleeding, or organ impairment.

Warning signs that doctors should look for include:

  • severe abdominal pain.
  • persistent vomiting.
  • rapid breathing.
  • bleeding gums.
  • fatigue.
  • blood in vomit.
  • restlessness.

If patients manifest these symptoms during the critical phase, close observation for the next 24–48 hours is essential so that proper medical care can be provided, to avoid complications and risk of death.

If you think you have dengue:

  • Seek a healthcare provider if you develop a fever or have symptoms of dengue.
  • Rest:  Take rest as much as possible.
  • Take the medicines: paracetamol is usedto control fever and relieve pain. Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen
  • Drink plenty of fluids: To stay hydrated. Drink water or drinks with added electrolytes.

Treatment:

There is no specific treatment for dengue fever.

  • Fever reducers and pain killers can be taken to control the symptoms of muscle aches and pains, and fever.
  • The best options to treat these symptoms are acetaminophen or paracetamol.
  • NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as ibuprofen and aspirin should be avoided. These anti-inflammatory drugs act by thinning the blood, and in a disease with risk of hemorrhage, blood thinners may exacerbate the prognosis.

 Precautions and Control:

The proximity of mosquito vector breeding sites to human habitation is a significant risk factor for dengue as well as for other diseases that Aedes mosquito transmit.

  • Covering, emptying and cleaning of domestic water storage containers on a weekly basis.
  • Applying appropriate insecticides to water storage outdoor containers.
  • Wearing clothing that minimizes skin exposure to mosquitoes.
  • Using of personal household protection measures, such as window screens, repellents, insecticide treated materials, coils and vaporizers.
  • Drink boiled water.
  • Consume fresh homemade food.
  • Make sure your home is well-ventilated.
  • Wash hands before eating any food.
  • Avoid touching your nose and mouth without washing your hands.
  • Avoid going to crowded places to reduce risk of viral infections.
  • Disposing of solid waste properly and removing artificial man-made habitats that can hold water.
  • Allow the sick child or family member to rest and sleep under a bed net or use insect repellant while feverish.
  • Eat well:  Consuming a healthy and balanced diet rich in essential nutrients can help boost immunity.
  • Educate yourself: Make yourself aware of the disease, its symptoms, and treatment to ensure reaching out for the appropriate treatment at the right time. Progression of the disease can be fatal.

Safety Travel Precautions To Be Followed During COVID- 19 Outbreak

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), you need to follow certain rules and precautions to keep yourself safe if you travel during the COVID-19 outbreak. Traveling is riskier during the coronavirus outbreak, especially in light of the delta variant. But these tips can help keep your trip as safe as possible.

1.Wash your hands habitually:

The main thing that you can do to try not to get contaminated by COVID is routinely washing your hands. Make sure that it’s not simply a speedy flush with cleanser and water. You need to wash your hands for in any event twenty to thirty seconds at whatever point you get an opportunity, particularly subsequent to getting to public spaces specially after accessing public spaces or if you have taken a mode of public transport. If you took the flight to a place, wash your hands after leaving the airport. Always keep a hand sanitiser gel with you. In case you don’t get access to soap and water, you put a few drops of the sanitiser gel and rub it on your hands and wrists.

2. Keep your safe distance:

The symptoms of coronavirus disease are similar to that of common flu or cold. So, if you see someone is coughing, sneezing or has any common signs of flu, try to stay at least three feet away from that person. It’s possible to contract the virus through respiratory droplets by cough or sneeze.

3. Make sure to try not to contact your face with unwashed hands:

Avoid contacting your face except if you haven’t altogether cleaned your hands and particularly when you have been in a public spot. It can undoubtedly spread to somebody who interacts with the item through their mouth, nose, and eyes.

Crowds are the most noticeably awful spot to be during the Covid episode. In case you’re venturing out to a spot with countless Coronavirus cases, avoid any spot with many individuals.

Before you decide to travel and pack your bags, do your research. Are cases rising where you’re going? What about where you live? If the answer is yes to one or both questions, you’re at a higher risk for getting or spreading the virus. Also, keep in mind that states and countries have varying travel restrictions. Some may not allow travel or may require proof that you’ve recently tested negative and/or been vaccinated before visiting. For more information, check your destination’s official tourism site.

7. Preparing for Travel:

A little preparation can go a long way. Use applications to check into your flight online and scan for touchless boarding. Bring a mask, hand sanitizer and wipes to clean your phone, ID and any other items you may need to exchange at security checkpoints.

8. Notice Your Surroundings:

Whether on a bus, train or plane, check your surroundings before boarding or take off. Is everyone wearing masks? Does the bus or train have good ventilation? Do the people closest to you, seem sick or rundown? If so, it’s not worth the risk. Exit the plane, bus or train and catch the next one.

9. Safe Bathroom visits:

Wash your hands thoroughly and bring your own paper towels. Hand dryers can blast dead skin cells and germs into the air. Use a towel to open the door and toss disposable masks after exiting.

Pokémon – A Popular Series Is Back On Netflix with its new live-action

Variety reported that “Lucifer” showrunner Joe Henderson has been attached to write and executive produce the untitled series, which is in the early stages of development. The series will mark Hollywood’s second live-adaptation of the multimedia franchise following 2019’s Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith-led film, “Pokémon Detective Pikachu.”

The show is in very early development as confirmed by Netflix. Netflix is a bit of a hit-and-miss when it comes to series. They will invest in nearly everything but also won’t hesitate to pull the plug if necessary. By its very nature, Pokémon is a franchise that needs a high budget to translate well into live-action.

Reports about Netflix’s “Pokémon” series broke several days after Netflix reported its Q2 2021 earnings, which included the news that Netflix will begin including certain video games in its members’ subscriptions. Though details were vague, the company said it viewed gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation, and unscripted TV. Netflix is home to multiple existing Pokémon shows including “Pokémon: Indigo League” and “Pokémon Journeys.”

Pokémon abbreviated from the Japanese title of Pocket Monsters and currently advertised in English as Pokémon the Series, is a Japanese anime television series, part of the Pokémon company’s Pokémon media franchise,  which began broadcast in Japan on  TV Tokyo  in April 1997. Pokémon is considered as the most successful video game adaptation of all time.  Pokémon games have been part of people’s lives for decades. The series is considered to be one of the first anime series on television to attain this level of success with Western audiences. It has additionally been credited with allowing the game series to reach a high degree of popularity.

The Pokémon anime series was largely credited for allowing anime to become more popular and familiar around the world, especially in the United States, where the two highest-grossing anime films are both Pokémon films.

The Pokémon anime has been going strong for 23 years now, and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping. Its protagonist, Ash Ketchum, has traveled around every prominent region in the Pokémon world  on his journey to becoming a Pokémon Master. Throughout his travels, Ash has experienced endless adventures. He’s caught all kinds of Pokémon, met countless friends and allies, and fought against numerous foes. The anime has plenty of material to adapt from, and the series could easily take some of these most popular storylines and translate them into live-action.pa

While detective Pikachu film released in 2019 directed by Rob Letterman. detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu.

The team behind the live-action series could take the greatest Pokémon games from each generation and adapt them into individual seasons in an anthology show. They could also take the best elements from each and create a single, cohesive, long-term storyline that spans several seasons. The possibilities are endless, and every fan would love to see their favorite game come to life.

5 Ways to Eat Less Processed Food

Processed food is any food item that has been canned, cooked, frozen, pasteurized, or packaged.

Reducing your intake of these highly processed foods is one of the most effective ways to improve your health and enhance the quality of your diet. You can enjoy many processed foods, including canned vegetables, frozen fruits, and pasteurized dairy products, as part of a healthy diet. However, some highly processed items are loaded with salt, sugar, additives, and preservatives, which can harm your health.

1.Refined grains for whole grains:

One of the simplest ways to reduce your intake of processed foods is to start trading them for healthier whole foods. In particular, you can swap refined grains like white pasta, rice, bread, and tortillas for whole grain alternatives, such as brown rice and whole grain pasta, bread, and tortillas.

Whole grains are higher in important nutrients like fiber, but they’ve also been shown to protect against conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.

2.Keep healthy snacks handy:

keeping your kitchen stocked with plenty of portable, nutritious snacks can make it much easier to make healthy choices on the go.

  • Some of my favorite healthy snacks include fresh fruit, mixed nuts and veggies with hummus.
  • boiled eggs, turkey roll-ups, homemade kale chips, and overnight oats are a few great treats that you can whip up quickly and keep on hand for later.

3. consume more water:

Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.

The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:

  • About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks.

Sugary beverages like soda, sweet tea, fruit juice are high in sugar and calories but low in essential nutrients. Gradually trading these drinks for water throughout the day is a great way to cut back on your intake of processed foods and improve your overall diet quality. Alternatively, you can try infusing water with fresh fruit or herbs for an added burst of flavor.

4. consume more vegetables:

vegetables are highly nutritious and great sources of fiber, which keeps you feeling full between meals to help decrease your appetite and curb cravings.

When you’re preparing meals at home, include at least one serving of vegetables to increase your intake of healthy, unprocessed foods. This can be as easy as adding spinach to your scrambled eggs, sautéing broccoli for a simple side dish, or tossing carrots or cauliflower into soups or casseroles.

5. Try some food substitutes:

There are countless healthy substitutes for many processed products. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • top your salads with nuts or seeds instead of croutons.
  • Trade your sugary breakfast cereal for a bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit.
  • Whip up a homemade vinaigrette with olive oil and vinegar to drizzle over salads in place of processed dressings.
  • Make trail mix using nuts, seeds, and dried fruit for a healthy alternative to store-bought varieties.

Advantages of Fitness Trackers During Pandemic

Fitness bands have become quite popular nowadays. A fitness band is worn on the wrist, often with a display that can be used to control a smartphone or to keep track of information such as fitness levels.

Fitness trackers certainly can be a helpful tool to track health and weight loss progress, the individual still has to stay motivated to make dietary changes or keep up with that new exercise routine.

“The health and fitness technology market is growing by 20 percent each year, making fitness trackers more popular by the minute”.

While we are all social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic , fitness trackers can help us all stay on track with our fitness goals. Fitness trackers are a popular way to keep track of your progress. Depending on the tracker, can track steps, calories, distance traveled, caloric intake, and even heart rate and sleep. Some even offer GPS tracking to map your distance and pace.

Advantages of fitness trackers are mentioned below:

  • Personal accountability: Fitness trackers track your goals and your progress, psychologically encouraging you to walk more steps than you did yesterday; to run faster than you did yesterday; to sustain that peak heart rate for just a little longer for that intense interval training.
  • Promote activity in the workplace: Fitness is no longer an individual hobby or habit. Workplaces are getting involved in encouraging employees to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Motivation: A fitness tracker gives a visual of your progress and accomplishments each day. Seeing your progress is good motivation to improve more and more each day.
  • Healthy eating: It is important to eat a healthy diet while you exercise. By keeping track of your food and water intake helps you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Set goals: Set goals for yourself to accomplish each day. For example, 10,000 steps a day. It is a great feeling to know you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.
  • Tracks sleep: A fitness tracker has the ability to track your sleep patterns, how deep or light you sleep, how long you slept, and each time you woke up. Recognizing your sleep patterns can allow you to have a good night’s sleep and improve your mood the next day.
  • Stay Connected: There are some fitness trackers that include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This allows you to receive incoming calls, text messages, or emails without looking at your phone. It is a great way to stay connected without always being close to your phone.
  • Monitors Heart Rate: Most fitness trackers have the ability to monitor your heart rate by measuring your pulse. This allows you to reach your target heart rate with each workout. The maximum heart rate is about 220 minus your age. During moderate physical activities, your target heart rate is about 50-70% of the maximum heart rate and with vigorous workouts it should be about 70-85% of the maximum heart rate. The fitness tracker can detect changes that may occur to your heart rate.
  • Weight loss tool: trackers help to keep track of your weight.
