When Lord Shiva’s hand is on you, what signs might you expect to see?

Lord Shiva carries the title of destroyer in our texts. Every Shiva devotee is curious as to how Lord Shankar was born and who his parents are. In the Puranas, there are several accounts about Lord Shiva’s birth and his parents. Lord Shiva is said to be Swayambhu, or his origin is himself, according to the Shiva Purana. Bholenath exists beyond of time and space.

A narrative of Lord Shiva’s birth can be found in the Vishnu Purana. According to mythology, when Brahma ji required a child, he performed penance. Then Shiva, the sobbing kid, arrived in her lap. When Brahma inquired as to why the youngster was crying, he simply replied that because his name was not “Brahma,” he was crying. Brahma then gave Shiva the name Rudra, which means “one who weeps.” The birth of Shiva as Brahma’s son is also the subject of a mythical narrative in the Vishnu Purana. According to this, when the entire cosmos, including the earth, heaven, and Hades, was inundated, only Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh remained. Then only Vishnu, on his Sheshnag, was seen resting on the water’s surface. Then Brahma ji arrived on his navel’s lotus umbilical cord.

When one’s heart is full of devotion, there is no room in one’s head for impure thoughts. And someone who has bhakti will not appreciate someone just because they are affluent or powerful. He is unconcerned about wealth or pelf. In a discourse, R. Narayanan said that he will always have regard for those who are devoted to God.Appar claims that if a person is not a devotee of Lord Siva, he will be indifferent to him, even if he is as wealthy as Kubera, the God of Wealth. If a man is a devotee of Lord Siva, however, Appar will worship him regardless of his wealth.

Signs you can expect

  1. Your ego will crumble, and it will be at an all-time low.
  2. You’ll see that nothing is filthy or lovely; everything has its own essence.
  3. You will no longer seek acceptance from others; the only approval you will require is from your own soul and Lord Shiva.
  4. You’ll want to cry if you encounter someone in suffering or who is hungry.
  5. You will not pass judgment on anyone and will value human beings regardless of their financial, physical, or other characteristics.
  6. You will no longer objectify women; instead, you will perceive a woman as a human being, not a gender.
  7. Anger will be at an all-time low, and there will be perpetual enjoyment and a smile on the face for no apparent reason.
  8. Very upbeat, and a beautiful radiance will emerge.
  9. Your emptiness, restlessness, and hollow will be gone.
  10. You will begin to value animals and nature more than humans, and you will refuse to pluck even a single bloom from a tree.
  11. You will experience negative when you tell lies, criticize people, think nasty thoughts, and so on.
  12. Your mind’s conditioning will begin to crumble, and you will see the truth as it is rather than the truth as it is presented by society and education.
  13. You will be a very loyal person with a lot of love for everyone and few negative characteristics.
  14. Money will no longer entice you; instead, you will stop seeking it and begin to acquire it with a simple approach.

Online shopping or Offline shopping?

Who doesn’t love shopping? Shopping is therapeutic. Everytime we go for shopping, our mood changes. We get excited when we get our hands on the things we have wished for. The sense of happiness that we experience is something so different. Human wants are endless and so are the reasons to shop.

These days there has been a debate going on, whether online shopping is better or offline shopping. However, both modes of shopping has its own pros and cons. People have not taken over just one mode of shopping rather they prefer both based on their convenience. Of course, it cannot be denied that online shopping has quite a bit threatened the functioning of offline retail stores.

Online Shopping

With easy access to Internet, we are just a few clicks away to get what we want. Online shopping is undoubtedly a relaxing and convenient mode of shopping. Right from clothes to groceries, digital gadgets to crafted products, almost everything can be purchased online. Especially in the time of pandemic, online shopping has bloomed greatly. People prefer to use online shopping platforms to get their essentials delivered rather than going out and risking their lives. However, online shopping has its own pros and cons.

Pros of online shopping

When shopping online we can get our hands on a variety of products at the same time. We can buy clothes, ornaments, shoes etc at once without having to hop here and there.

We can easily find branded and imported products online without any difficulty.

There is no particular time to shop online. We can place our order at any time of the day and at any day of the week.

Sometimes, in different shopping applications the prices of the same product varies. In that case we can make a comparison and buy from the pocket friendly app.

When shopping online, the ordered products gets delivered right at our doorstep which definitely is a great advantage of shopping online.

We can filter our choices and preferences to narrow down the search so that we can view only those types of products we are looking for.

In online shopping platforms, some or the other discounts goes on everyday that allows the buyers to shop at a lower price.

A buyer can confirm the quality and authenticity of the products by looking at the reviews and ratings provided by other buyers of the same products.

Cons of online shopping

The products takes a long time to get delivered. Sometimes, due to prolonged delivery the buyer might face certain problems.

Because we cannot touch or see the product we are buying in real, there might be some issues with the quality or size of the product. Every brand has different size and quality and so it is difficult to identify the quality and the accurate size of the product we order.

Sometimes, the picture of the product that we buy may be deceptive. We might receive something which not at all look like the one we have seen online. Getting what we didn’t order would be a disappointment. The disappointment would be worst if no ‘return’ facility is provided for that product. It would be a sheer waste of money.

With increasing rates of cyber crimes online shoppers have become the soft targets of the criminals. The bank details of the online shoppers might get hacked which indeed creates a big problem.

Offline Shopping

Offline shopping is the traditional mode of shopping. This mode of shopping has its own unique charm. Despite the popularity of online shopping, offline shopping has still survived. People often roam around the streets with their friends and families adding life to the shops and social relationships are established between the customers and shopkeepers. Offline Shopping too has its own pros and cons.

Pros of offline shopping

When we buy from a physical store, we can buy the products after closely inspecting the quality of it. We can take a trial of the things be it clothes, shoes etc that we wish to buy so that we don’t regret the purchase.

If by any chance, after the purchase we do not like the product, we can easily return or exchange it.

We need not wait for a long time to get the products we buy. We can immediately get it after we pay the price of the product to the shopkeeper.

No offline shopper buys something without bargaining. The customers enjoy it.

If we suddenly get an invitation to attend an event and we want to look presentable, the only option that strikes our mind is to shop from an offline retail store. We can immediately rush to the market and buy a dress, shoe, jewellery or any such things that we need without any delay.

Cons of offline shopping

Offline shopping can be tiresome. Sometimes people spend their whole day hopping from one shop to another to buy the product they want and still not find it. In that case, it would be a waste of time and energy. To return home empty hand after spending hours in the market can be frustrating.

Markets are a crowded area. Too many people getting into a shop can disrupt shopping fun. Waiting at a shop for a long time to get bills paid is not liked at all. People generally prefer to shop in a peaceful environment without much hassle.

Limited branded clothes are accessible in offline stores.

Buying from an offline store can be expensive most of the times. Customers find the same product online at a much lower price.

Inter – relation between online and offline shopping

Although both the modes of shopping has its own advantages and disadvantages yet there is an inter – relation between the two. Some offline retail store put up their products online for the customers to purchase. This way they earn a good amount of profit.

No mode of shopping can completely overpower the other. Both plays their unique role in providing services to people. People use both the modes as per their preferences and convenience. However, be it online or offline, it cannot be denied that shopping brings a smile on the face of the people. Yes, it is no less than a therapy.

Some parents, knowing how destructive conflict can be, may think that they can avoid affecting their children by giving in, or capitulating, in order to end an argument. But that’s not an effective tactic. “We did a study on that,” Cummings said. According to parents’ records of their fights at home and their children’s reactions, kids’ emotional responses to capitulation are “not positive.”

Consequences of Colonialism: How It is Still Having an Effect Today

The contemporary Middle Eastern dilemma began when Europeans established the lines at the end of World War I. Middle Easterners are perpetually at war over ethnic and religious differences as a result of the thoughtless distinctions — a characteristic emphasized by colonial overlords.

Before the First World War, the British Empire was the apex of dominance, ruling roughly a quarter of the globe as the world’s largest colonial empire. For nearly two centuries, Britain has continued to feed its drive for domination while ignoring its responsibility to its colonies.

The British took considerable attempts to enrich their motherland by exploiting the resources and manpower of their colonies. They collected taxes to meet Britain’s financial needs and compelled raw material production for Britain’s industries and exports, destroying the colonies’ integrated and self-sufficient economies. They insured that any united resistance to them would be repressed by measures like the “divide and rule” strategy. The British used religious differences to sow division in order to maintain control over the colonies. Religious differences in people’s minds are a cause of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

While the British professed to be on a civilizing mission, their actions fell well short of this goal and failed to exhibit a liberal attitude. To begin with, the idea of civilizing such old societies was faulty. Also during the First World War, the British made promises that were short-sighted. For example, they offered Jews a distinct homeland in the modern-day Palestinian region, while also promising the same to Arabs.

Middle Eastern countries such as the United Arab Emirates have succeeded in constructing their new societies based on the essence of what looked viable for their society and culture, rather than on European principles. Burqas are still worn by many women throughout the Middle East as a cultural duty, and the official languages of these countries are local.

While Middle Eastern countries absorbed Western emphasis on scientific and political progress, they only instilled the best for their own countries rather than emulating the Western world in its entirety. People gained greater abilities as a result of their interactions with Westerners, making the country theoretically capable of competing with the West. The abundance of oil and other natural resources has elevated the commercial prestige and prosperity of countries like Egypt today.

People from these countries have relocated to Western countries that are supposedly safe and have adequate law enforcement. Unfortunately, they are not welcomed openly, are unable to get legal status, and are denied their rights. It’s difficult to deny that immigrants in some nations are treated unfairly, and that not all of them find a home. Intervening for personal gain while ignoring human responsibility does not make a country more strong. Despite the fact that the human species is an unified society, divisions such as provinces, countries, and continents have been drawn. As a result, it’s critical to freely offer altruistic help of an unworldly type that looks beyond boundaries.

Also The consequences of colonialism should not be overlooked or regarded as insignificant because they continue to influence how many countries conduct domestic and foreign politics today. Furthermore, it is a part of our nations’ narratives — both conquerors and colonized — and should be explored in order to avoid similar results in the future.

#MeToo

There are times when you feel the rage and anguish in the air, at least from a certain section of the society. Many are now raising their voices to improve their individual personality as well as the society as a whole. A society develops only when individuals themselves create ripples by hosting their arguments. Several movements are there which is woman centric and the MeToo movement being one among them. The #MeToo movement first began as an offline protest and later it changed to an online movement. The movement was started around 2006 and it reached the online platforms in October 2017. It’s the voice of the educated women against the deep trenched male dominant culture at the workspace. The #MeToo movement was founded by Tarana Burke, a social activist and community organizer. Burke, who is creating a documentary titled Me Too, has said she was inspired to use the phrase after being unable to respond to a 13-year-old girl who confided to her that she had been sexually assaulted. Burke said she later wished she had simply told the girl, ‘Me too’. It’s a platform for the oppressed and a means to express the abuse they had faced. When news of the allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein broke last October, it unleashed a torrent of emotion, especially on social media, offering permission to disclose current and past experiences of sexual harassment and assault. In an unprecedented quantum of use, it offered many angry and upset women accessible ways of venting often long-repressed feelings. It also gave rise to the #MeToo movement. A barrage of allegations has since emerged against high-profile men in entertainment, the media, politics, and tech. Many deny any wrongdoing. The repercussions are still in flux, but world’s power dynamics have undoubtedly shifted.

It’s a common practice in the world to abuse women irrespective of the age. It doesn’t mean that only women are being abused, men also belong to this but when compared the rate of abuse is very less. Abusing women has now become a part of culture mainly because of the stereotypes. #MeToo is one way to overcome these stereotypes. The reason for the #MeToo public explosion is that the judiciary or armed forces never bothered about their problems and their suffocations. It is seen that the law favors the oppressor more than the oppressed. The whole process shamed the victim. Many of the sexual assault happened when workplaces were not sensitive to the safety of women and social media platforms were nonexistent. Besides this, our power structure is dominated by men and the victims are young and vulnerable women.

Social media is both a boon and bane. It is depends on how we treat a certain issue.  #MeToo movement has been very active in social media since the latter half of 2017. It is in fact the social media that urged the advancement of #MeToo. The hashtag #MeToo is doing the rounds in every nook and cranny of social media. As more and more women come out on social media with accounts of sexual harassment and abuse a great political cultural change in being shaped. The change brought by #MeToo movement is immense and it has been able to give the possible credentials to women. It has achieved great success in challenging the social norms. Many men, who are charged of sexual assault through the #MeToo movement, some admitted and apologized to the misconduct they have committed. This, in this instance, has become an eye opener for many men. In this wave of storm, prominent personalities are named for their harsh behavior. The #MeToo is critical of the power and the way it enables sexual predators. #MeToo is trying to fill the gender gap that has been produced by the patriarchy. There are so many laws to protect sexual harassment of women in workplace.

In a feminist perspective, #MeToo is a translation of western culture. The #MeToo movement can be analyzed from the notion of female experience. The subjects involved in the process are all women of all age. It determines the point of view without any hesitance or shyness and in a courageous manner. The experiences differ from other females and males. It can be related to the ‘second wave of feminism’ which portrays equal rights and representation as its key motive. In #MeToo movement, there is no celebration of so called ‘feminity’. It’s a transformation from ‘inter – dependence’ to independence. In relation to Cixous’, ‘Ecriture Feminine’ which exemplifies women to writing about her body, #MeToo is a continuation of this concept and not only writing about body but also writing about the sexual violence that is faced by women. It was a renewal of an old tradition of thoughts and action. #MeToo movement revisits the history of Indian Feminism. The American Feminist critic Eliane Showalter classified the history of women’s writing into feminine phase, feminist phase and female phase. In feminine phase women writers imitated the dominant male artistic norms; in feminist phase a radical position was maintained and in female phase women started writing their own experiences. The #MeToo movement can he considered as a part of female phase as it involves expressing the sexual violence that is imbibed upon them.

Why digital multitasking is bad?

Do you also switch between two digital tasks at once? Like watching television and surfing Instagram feed or watching a Netflix show and watching some reels or maybe texting your friend while attending online classes on your laptop. A recent study showed how switching or multitasking your screen time can affect your attention span or memory. A survey showed how adolescents are addicted to their phones and the average screen time recorded was 7 hours and 38 minutes. But, with digitalization and pandemic, this screen time is much more increased to massive 10 hours and 45 minutes every day.

A research study performed at Stanford University proved how multitasking between two or more digital media affects both attention span and memory. The study was performed on the 18-26 age group and many memory-related tasks were assigned. An electroencephalogram or EEG was used for data collection. As frontal and parietal parts of the brain are involved in attention and memory, these areas were the principal focus.

The group which multitasked scored low in the memory tasks and increased alpha wave was observed with shrinking in pupils. In contrast, the other group which do not multitask scored higher in memory tasks and no such observations were recorded in this case. After the study, the researchers concluded that digital media multitasking and attention spans & memory are correlated.

Furthermore, multitasking or switching between digital media causes switch-gaps, which means it takes longer to take a task, and it also increases the number of errors in the tasks.

Putting in a nutshell in some way or the other, multitasking between digital media can affect your attention span and memory, so it is better to do one task at a time because a person who chases two rabbits catches neither.

Pegasus Spyware – A curse to privacy ?

What is the work of Pegasus and What is its origin ?

Pegasus owned by a NSO group- a private foundation, which many leading countries believe that it is the most powerful spyware ever created, it was coded to infiltrate into the smartphones of target users, be it IOS or Android, and it converts personal devices into surveillance devices. It is the main product of NSO group which was founded by Niv Carmi, Shalev Hulio and Omri Lavie. It is a Herzliya based company located near Tel Aviv, Israel which was founded in 2010, it is a subsidiary of Q Cyber Technologies group of companies.

What is the actual meaning of a Spyware?

Let’s get this straight, in simple words, a spyware is the term given to a category of software which aims to steal personal or organisational data/information without the consent of host. Once a spyware is successfully installed, it starts sending the data from that computer/mobile in the background to a third-party which is controlling this spyware. This third-party can be any government or The NSO group itself.

Pegasus can bypass your phone’s security and install malware that grants complete access to your device. It can access every message you’ve ever sent and received, every photo, video and email, can turn on your microphone, even when you’re not using a phone call, just record what you’re doing in the room. It can turn on your camera, and is also able to record what’s on your screen, can access your GPS, it can monitor your location. And it is able do all of this without you ever knowing.

So if you think that you are using online chatting apps like WhatsApp owned by Facebook or Signal owned by Moxie Marlinspike and Brian Acton which are famous for end-to-end encryption but this gets meaningless once Pegasus is on your phone. It is virtually undetectable which makes it even more lethal.

History of Pegasus software :

  • To begin with the brief history of Pegasus, in 2016 the Canadian Cybersecurity Organisation The Citizen Lab encountered it’s first case on the smartphone of Human Right activist Ahmed Mansoor.
  • In addition, in September 2018 The Citizen Lab published a report identifying 45 countries in which Pegasus was being used.
  • Furthermore, in the year 2019 WhatsApp exposed that journalists and Human Rights Activists in India were under surveillance by operators using Pegasus.
  • The latest case of this spyware is found India in July 2021, The Pegasus Project revealed that various governments used the software to spy on government officials, opposition politicians and many more eminent faces. Some records state that Indian government used the software to spy on around 300 people between 2019 and 2021.

Is spying legal in India?

The laws governing surveillance in India are The Telegraph Act, 1885 which indicates about the interception of calls and The Information Technology Act, 2000, it deals with the interception of data. Under both the laws, only government, under certain circumstances, is allowed to conduct surveillance. Moreover, hacking in India is illegal under IT Act.

Is there any solution to save us from this cyber attack havoc ?

Many Cybersecurity experts state that a phone infiltrated by Pegasus might not be able to recover completely, some traces can be found even after a strong factory reset.

Although they have introduced some preventive measures to save oneself from getting hitched with this software.

Open links only from trusted websites, contacts and sources while using your device.

Please make sure that your device is fully upgraded with the latest patches and system/app updates.

Keep your device safe by limiting physical access. This can be done by applying pin, password, biometric locking and face-locking facility.

Also avoid using open Wi-fi or hotspot as the host may steal your data from the network connection. Try using VPN to prevent this condition while using Wi-fi or hotspots it is a safer option to prevent your information.

Do have a backup of your credentials and important documents, if in case your device is lost, stolen or broken you will never lack from your data.

THE MODERN TECHNOLOGY-GOOD AND BAD EFFECTS

Technology, the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life, or as it is sometimes phrased, to change and manipulation of the human environment. Technology is the sum of techniques, skills, methods and processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. Technology can be the knowledge of techniques processes and the like or it can be embedded in machines to allow for operation without detailed knowledge of their workings. Systems applying technology by taking an input, changing it according to the system’ use and then producing an outcome are referred to as technology systems or technological systems.

History

The use of tools by early humans was partly a process of discovery and of evolution. Early humans evolved from a species of foraging hominids which were already bipedal, with a brain mass approximately one third of modern humans. Tool use remained relatively unchanged for most of early human history. Approximately 50,000 years ago, the use of tools and complex set of behaviors emerged, believed by many archaeologists to be connected to the emergence of the fully modern language.

Is technology good or bad

These days it’s trendy to talk about technology as if it were purely a bad thing. After all, we’ve got companies violating our privacy and harvesting our data without being transparent about what they’re doing, tools like personal assistants recording us without our knowledge and regular breaches that put our personal information at risk. The same tools we’re concerned about can also makes our lives better from connecting doctors more quickly than ever to patient data to digital bus routes that make transport more efficient. Technology on it’s own isn’t bad or a good thing, it’s how it’s used that matters.

The evolution of technology is beneficial to humans for several reasons. At the medical level, technology can help treat more sick people and consequently save many lives and combat very harmful viruses and bacteria. Technology has also increased the productivity of almost every industry in the world.

Modern technology is used for many lifestyles conveniences from our smartphones to our vehicles, but it’s also saving lives every second by advancing our medical science. Technology allows the world’s most state-of-the-art hospitals to catch and treat diseases faster and more efficient than ever.

Technology reduces the cost of doing much of the work. The lower cost of production helps to increase the profit margin, which is essential in eradicating poverty. Technology opens up doors for new opportunities to do business or work. In turn, it increases the household incomes among the poor population.

Social media and mobile devices may lead to psychological and physical issues, such as eyestrain and difficulty focusing on important tasks. They may also contribute to more serious health conditions, such as depression. The overuse of technology may have a more significant impact on developing children and teenagers.

Technology addiction falls into a category of addiction termed behavioral addictions. Behavioral addictions are widely recognized by mental health and addiction professionals and include other behaviors such as gambling etc.

Conclusion

Technology has made our society make it to the point of ignorance to the fact that there might be a day when our technology does not work and they cannot at the moment live without it.We have grown to rely on our technology to make our lives easier.

You must know this, before getting VACCINATED!!

As we all are aware, coronavirus affects different people in different ways. Some people suffer from serious symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain while some people suffer from mild symptoms like loss of taste or smell, sore throat, headache etc.

Even after COVID recovery, people are getting infected by new fungal infections like Black fungus and White fungus. As the immunity of the body takes some time to recover, COVID patients are becoming easy targets for these fungal infections.

The only way to be safe from this coronavirus and its after harms, is to get VACCINATED.

Now, coming to the point of vaccination, people are having various misconceptions. Like,

  • Which vaccine should be preferred?
  • What will be the side-effects of taking vaccine?
  • Can vaccination guarantee protection against COVID?
  • Can anyone get corona after vaccination?

And so on.

All the vaccines , COVISHIELD, COVAXIN, SPUTNIK V have passed the standard approval of WHO(WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION). All are efficient and preventive against corona. These vaccines are made available free of cost at government institutions and hospitals.

Side effects:

Any side effects after taking vaccine are an indication of the working of vaccine inside the body. People can have side-effects like headache, body pain, low grade fever and fatigue. However, these side-effects will resolve in a matter of 2-3 days.

Lastly, vaccination does help in protection against COVID, but it can be ensured only after taking both vaccine doses.(1 & 2). People who have taken only 1st dose of vaccine, should follow the same guidelines of wearing masks, maintaining social distances in public, frequently sanitizing your hands.

Artificial Intelligence Taking Away the Jobs.

Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. Artificial intelligent machines are the machines that work according to human programming commands and thereby also use their own intelligence to make decisions at times when needed. AI enabled machines are taught to do particular set of operations by machine learning processes.

Artificial Intelligence in Industries

Nowadays many industries are using AI enabled machines to do various work functions that were done previously by humans. Automated Robots are the best example of AI implemented in Industries. AI enabled Robots can do various operations like, Painting a car in Automobile Industries, Cleaning Robots for floor cleaning, Automated welding robots, etc. are performing various functions at very efficient rate eating up jobs of people.

Artificial Intelligence in Service sector

Chatbots are the best example of AI in service sector. Many telecom service providers, Banking service providers, etc. have started using AI enabled chatbots for getting reviews, complaints, service demand requests, etc. using chatbots inside their apps. Chatbots are eating up the jobs of receptionist who were involved in transferring calls, taking feedback like tasks. Although complete replacement is not done but in future if Chatbots grow more intelligent people are going to loose their jobs.

Artificial Intelligence in IT industries

Artificial Intelligence has also become threat to the community who is behind it’s creation, It won’t affect the skilled programmers but will surely eat up jobs of lazy programmers getting their jobs done by simply pasting things form open source. A recent example of it is GitHub Copilot. These kind of AI powered tools if they get more smarter and efficient have potential to take away jobs of mediocre coders. Besides developers the employees working for testing and support activities are also at a risk of loosing their jobs because of AI.

Other miscellaneous sectors

Many other small scale business and people involved in various activities like driving, selling things on streets, etc. are at risk. Big e-commerce companies are using AI enabled tools to attract large mass of people enabling them to provide products at cheaper rates. Self Driving cars are also becoming threat to their jobs.

Likewise there are many dark sides of AI, but there are also so many bright sides of AI that are making our life easier and happy. The Bright side story will be shared in my upcoming blog !

Trauma and Its Effect on Relationships

Traumatic incidents are uncontrollable, distressing events that leave a lasting imprint on the people they affect. People who have survived trauma often continue to live normal lives, but the effects of trauma may impact mood, motivation and relationships. It’s normal to experience some changes after a distressing and uncontrollable event, and it’s important to know when to seek supportive trauma treatment.

All humans have unique life experiences and backgrounds, and each person may react to a traumatic incident in a unique way. Events that are traumatic to one person may not feel as distressing to another person. Everyone reflects on and recovers from trauma in their own way, and it may have differing effects on relationships, confidence and the sense of overall safety each person experiences.

Types of Trauma

There are different types of trauma. Some people experience a single traumatic event in a given time period, while others experience what is known as “complex trauma.” Complex trauma occurs when traumatic incidents are repeated, or when new, unique traumas continually occur. For instance, complex trauma may occur in families that struggle with domestic violence, addiction, poverty, chronic illness or ongoing community violence.

Both single-incident trauma and complex trauma can impact relationships with co-workers, friends, spouses, family members and the relationship with self.

If you experience some of the following symptoms, trauma may be affecting your life:

  • Irritability or chronic anger
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia or difficult sleep
  • Agitation, impatience or an inability to sit still
  • Intrusive memories, nightmares or flashbacks
  • Feeling “out of body” or disconnected from other people
  • Becoming “shut down” or unable to accomplish goals
  • Struggles with depression or unhappiness
  • Changes in appetite
  • Needing to have things a “certain way” or repeat activities over and over
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Engaging in risky, dangerous or unusual behaviours
  • Wanting to hurt yourself or others
  • Difficulty trusting others
  • Feeling unsafe
  • Using drugs, alcohol or behaviours to numb anxiety or distress
  • Avoiding friends, loved ones or activities you used to enjoy
  • Worsening of other mental health issues or diagnoses

How Childhood Trauma Impacts Adult Relationships

Many people experience some type of traumatic incident before the age of 18. Psychologists agree that our early family environment can impact our adult relationships. Traumatic incidents that occur during childhood can become part of a person’s adult attachment style.

As children, we look to our parents and other trusted adults to help us form ideas about the world. Children want to know if other people are trustworthy if the world is a safe place and if their loved ones will be there for them if they are in need. The information they gain from the close adults in their lives helps form lasting impressions of the nature of love, friendship and trust.

Childhood experiences can create particular attachment styles that last well into adulthood. A person’s attachment style reflects how warm or close that person likes to be in relationships. Attachment style can influence the way we communicate with others, and how we handle separations, arguments and intimacy.

As adults, we can change maladaptive attachment styles through personal insight, counselling and support. Taking time to improve relationships can also improve other conditions, such as anxiety, PTSD or depression.

Consider the following styles of attachment, and see if any might apply to you or someone you love.

Secure attachment: A secure attachment style is the healthiest attachment style. People who have secure attachments often had supportive childhood caregivers. These individuals feel comfortable connecting with others, asking for help as needed, and sharing emotions with others to a reasonable and healthy extent. People with secure attachment do not live in fear of abandonment or rejection, and they have a healthy view of themselves and others.

Dismissive-avoidant attachment: Individuals with this type of attachment (also known as “insecure-avoidant”) often experienced childhood neglect or rejection from caregivers. These individuals may avoid being close to others and often strive to be very independent, even to extremes. They may be more likely to keep secrets or fear threats to their perceived independence.

Fearful-avoidant attachment: These individuals may have experienced some type of childhood abuse, chaos or neglect. This attachment style often occurs when loved caregivers are also a source of pain. The resulting attachment style may make these adults afraid to be alone, but also afraid of closeness and intimacy. They often have difficulty trusting others and may alternate from one extreme of closeness to complete avoidance.

Anxious-preoccupied attachment: This attachment style occurs when adults have experienced constant childhood change, inconsistent parents or caregivers who alternate between extreme attentiveness and distant coldness. As adults, these individuals experience a great deal of anxiety about their relationships; they may be clingy, needy or hypersensitive to any changes in their partner. This anxiety may drive loved ones away, thus becoming a bit of a “self-fulfilling prophecy” of abandonment.

Adult Trauma Disorders and Recovery from Trauma

Trauma that occurs in adulthood can also change attachment styles, because trauma impacts the way we see the world as a whole. Often, intimate partners, spouses and family members witness the most intense effects of an individual’s trauma. It can be frightening, confusing and difficult to witness the effects of trauma in a loved one.

Spouses and partners can also experience emotional after-effects of trauma together. Those partners who experience trauma at the same time may cope with the trauma in different ways, and those coping skills may strengthen or destroy relationships.

The good news is that it is very possible for spouses or families to grow closer and stronger after trauma. Family members who are educated about trauma often see better outcomes for themselves and their loved ones.7That is why it is absolutely imperative to seek supportive treatment for the effects of trauma

Things to expect from your first counselling or therapy session

A counselling session is meant to help a person with certain mental or emotional problems and giving them advice and suggestions on how to cope up with them. Counselling is done primarily for the purpose of solving issues related to mental health . Major issues that have become common today are depression , anxiety , bipolar disorder and trauma which can even lead to an outcome as drastic as suicide.
Therapy can prove to be a very effective solution for such mental issues . There are many types of therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy , psychoanalytic therapy , exposure therapy etc. Talking to a psychologist or doing some activities as directed by them can make changes in your overall mental and emotional health. You should choose your therapist according to your needs and convenience , for example if a girl feels more comfortable in sharing her experience with a woman then she can choose a female therapist .

When you sit for your first counselling session , there are some things which you can expect to happen . First of all , you may feel overwhelmed while sharing your experience with the therapist and it is totally normal . If you feel like crying , then you should cry . There is no need to hold back as you are sitting in the therapy to solve your problems . Giving an honest and true account of your feelings and emotions is important.

Your first session is not the only session you are going to sit for , there will be many in the coming future. So dont expect big results from your first experience . A mental issue that has developed over years or months needs time . Change will happen slowly and it will take some time to again start feeling better.

You should try sharing maximum with your therapist . Dont try to hide anything unless and until it is really something that you dont want anyone to know. There is no need to feel ashamed or judged as everyone makes mistakes . Make full use of your space and be comfortable before your start interaction . The therapist is not sitting there to judge you or punish you.

At some stage you may feel that sitting for the session was probably a mistake or you should not have done this . Remember you must have come for counselling only after feeling that there is no other option. If you feel that your therapist is not able to understand you appropriately or you dont feel that you struck a vibe or rythm with them , then you can very well change your therapist. You are not supposed to proceed if you dont feel so.

Your first session may be a little overbearing and can leave you feel light headed at the same time. You may feel guilt , remorse , anger or irritation while interacting and calm , relaxed and peaceful after the session.

Overall , your first counselling session is supposed to set you on a path to recovery from a mental issue. Dont be nervous or afraid as it is not an examination or a test . One thing that you can do to avoid being a little spontaneous during the session is to plan what you want to say and how you to say that. Planning will aid you in sharing your experience in a systematic manner . Take your time to plan and try to stick to your plan. So psych yourself up and All the very best to you for your first session !

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is a serious crime in a household setting. Such crimes are a part of every society of the world. Spouse, children, elderly people are the victims in domestic violence. Domestic Violence can take place in the form of physical, mental, emotional, verbal abuse.

With every passing year, cases of domestic violence has been increasing rapidly. A significant number of deaths are taking place on an everyday basis due to domestic violence. Illiteracy, economic dependency, alcoholism etc are the main reasons behind domestic violence. Although many cases of domestic violence comes to light every year yet a huge number of cases goes unnoticed and unregistered.

Dowry is one of the main reason behind domestic violence. The groom and his family pressurise the bride and her family for money and other expensive things. If the family of the bride fails to fulfill the demands of the groom, the bride gets assaulted by her husband and her in – laws. Not only the newly married women but women married for several years too face violence from their in – laws. These women gets robbed of even their basic human rights and lead an unfortunate life.

In many of the cases, the abuser is psychotic and requires counselling. Besides the abuser, the people who are the mute spectators of domestic violence are equally responsible for the crime. To cope with the growing cases of domestic violence, India launched a campaign called ‘Bell Bajao’ with the motivation to raise voice against domestic violence happening around in the society.

The Government of India enforced many Domestic Violence Acts. In Section 498 – A of Indian Penal Code, rules and regulations have been mentioned. Law deals with the culprits strictly.

Making laws to deal with such violence is undoubtedly necessary but it is not enough. People will have to awake from their slumber and become aware. Every human being deserves honour and respect and it is high time for people to raise their voice to protest against the wrongful activities happening to self and others. Domestic Violence is a serious offence and has to be dealt with strongly.

CONVERSION THERAPY.

Conversion therapy might be a new term for some of them. So, let us get started by knowing what conversion therapy is exactly about. It is a scientific practice of changing an individual’s sexual orientation from homosexual, bisexual to heterosexual. It is done by using psychological, physical, or spiritual interventions. Conversion therapy is a serious offense to an individual with different sex identities, although it is said that there is no evidence of changing one’s sex orientation via conversion therapy. Medical Institute itself declared that performing this task is inappropriate, not healthy, and is harmful in means of mental health.

Many countries like parts of Australia, Canada, Malta, Mexico, etc have banned these foul practices. In Germany, those below 18 aren’t allowed to have this kind of therapy session. 20 US states have also banned it. It is said that the LGBTQ community is treated like this because it is some sort of mental disorder a person is going through.
Transgender who had undergone these wild, unethical practices of gender conversion therapy is more often attempt suicide.

Techniques of changing an individual’s orientation can he worse from talking therapies through to aversion technique. Such as electroshocks, injecting chemicals, and dedication treatments. The report says that there are approx 22,715 transgender adults who live in the US, the report is from 2015. They lived across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and US Military overseas. On the contrary, they were around the age of 31 and 42.8 percent were assigned male at birth. Into that, 14 percent were been exposed to conversion therapy. Undergoing therapies, likely place a person under a lot of stress by worsening how society makes them feel about their gender equality.

As I wrote gender inequality in my previous article, this therapy would come under the causes and why people have such type of mindset, and why aren’t we developing on this gender-equality thing. India itself is facing major backlash from its LGBTQ community people over the use of conversion therapy.
Last year in May, there was a tragic incident happened in goa. Anjana Harish, a 21-year-old bisexual woman in his, took her life. She posted an online video before her suicide describing herself, she was given 40 injections, and used to be locked in a cell which left her traumatized. This is how she was subjected to conversion therapy in Kerala, which is also her home state. Her family forced her to be in this therapy to become heterosexual. This incident led activists to call for an urgent ban on these unethical practices.

This kind of action just makes this community very uncomfortable. Spreading awareness should be made more normalise, as its high time we accept the fact that homosexuality or queerness is not a mental disorder, in fact it is normal.

J. K Rowling

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard of the Harry Potter series. However, I’m guessing that the most of you haven’t heard of J.K Rowling. If you’re wondering who she is, she’s the woman behind the world’s most successful bestseller series. This remarkable woman is motivating and extraordinary in every way. Rowling’s triumph is one of the most exhilarating, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Few people know what happened to her before she became famous.

Rowling, a master storyteller, has struggled with personal issues ranging from financial difficulties to melancholy on her path to literary achievement.

J.K. Rowling, the author whose Harry Potter book series has been translated into 73 languages, sold millions of copies, and earned over $20 billion in movie adaptations and sponsorships, said as much. So, why is it that she admits to being a failure? It wasn’t as simple as scribbling notes on a couple dinner napkins to come up with her book series. It wasn’t a simple one-step, two-step, or even three-step procedure. Years of dedication would be required to achieve the level of success she now enjoys.

It is stated that true success follows a series of setbacks. This is precisely what happened to Rowling. Her personal life was in disarray, making each day difficult for her. On a train voyage from Manchester to London one fine morning in 1990, she created the complete plot from an idea and began building the story of Harry Potter on that route. Unfortunately, her mother died later that year, putting a stop to her writing for a while. Rowling began writing soon after developing the concept for Harry Potter, but was abruptly distracted by the tragic death of her mother. Rowling stopped working on the novel and went into a deep, depressed state. When she moved to Portugal in 1992 to teach English as a foreign language, her life had other intentions. She met, married, and had a daughter with him. A year later, she divorced her then-husband and filed for divorce.

This was the turning point in her life, when she relocated to Edinburgh, Scotland, with her infant daughter to be closer to her sister, with three chapters of Harry Potter in her suitcase. Rowling was divorced, jobless, and a single mother of a child at the time, and it was the most trying time of her life. She struggled with acute depression, yet she persisted. She discovered the light at the end of the tunnel when life was dark and dreary, always pushing through the trials and tribulations life threw at her.

Rowling’s life was defined in so many ways by the year 1995. The Harry Potter script was rejected by roughly 12 prominent publications, not one, two, or five. She had been shattered, but she had not been vanquished. She continued to pursue more newspapers, and her efforts were rewarded. The book was accepted for publication by a small publishing house, and only 1000 copies were printed. Things changed quickly after the book won several accolades, including the Nestle Smarties Book Prize and the British Book Award for Children’s Book of the Year.

J.K Rowling’s most important lesson is to keep trying, believing, and acting on your dreams. Whether it’s to become a great business or to publish a novel, there’s something for everyone.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

There are some set of skills, apart from the technical skills people need to learn and impart, in order to fit or adjust themselves in the corporate environment. Emotional intelligence (EI), also known as Emotional Quotient (EQ) is one of the basic skills to work and grow in the corporate world. Emotions can be defined as the spirit or breath of life.
Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify, use, understand and manage emotions in a positive way. If you have a high EQ, you are able to recognize your own emotional state and the emotional states of others and engage with people in a way, that draws them to you. You can use this understanding of emotions to relate better to other people, form healthier relationships, achieve greater success at work and lead a more fulfilling life.

Five attributes of EQ.

Self Awareness – It helps people to understand their emotions and they don’t let their feelings to rule them.
Motivation – People with a high EQ are usually motivated.
Empathy – Empathetic people are usually excellent at managing relationships.
Social Awareness – Through social awareness, a person feels comfortable socially. It helps to recognize the power dynamics in an organization.
Self Regulation – It is the ability to control emotions and impulses.

EQ can help you navigate the social complexities of the work place, lead and motivate others and excel in your carrier. If you are unable to manage your stress levels, it can lead to serious health problems. Uncontrolled stress can also Impact your mental health, making you vulnerable to anxiety and depression. Understanding and controlling emotions allow you to communicate more effectively and to build stronger relationship both at work and in your personal life.

How to improve organizational EQ ?

Employees develop their own EQ. They have to seek support when needed and have to be more open and cooperative. Leaders should encourage the expression of feelings and foster a positive emotional climate. They should follow an open door policy by developing their own EQ. The organization should integrate EQ in training programs and should try to include EQ evaluation in recruitment process.

IQ, or intelligence quotient, is a measure of your ability to reason and solve problems. It is not enough to be successful in life. In general, thinking fast and coming up with unique solutions to tough problems seems to be aided by having a high IQ. But really, consider most business problems such as needing to develop an effective marketing campaign or figuring out how to distribute a product. Solving problems such as these does not typically require a PhD, Instead, it requires motivating people, getting the right information out of the right people, building alignment, and effective communication. So people need both these factors to be successful.

Music

Music is a pleasant sound which is a combination of melodies and harmony and which soothes you. Music may also refer to the art of composing such pleasant sounds with the help of the various musical instruments. A person who knows music is a musician. The music consists of Sargam, Ragas, Taals etc. The music is not only what is composed of men but also which exists in nature. Have you heard the sound of a waterfall or a flowering river? Could you hear music there? Thus, everything in harmony has music. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the greatest musicians, quoted “The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between”.

Importance of music

Music has great qualities of healing a person emotionally and mentally. Music is a form of meditation. While composing or listening music one tends to forget all his/her worries, sorrows and pains. But, in order to appreciate good music, we need to cultivate our musical taste. It can be cited that in the Dwapar Yug, the Gopis would get mesmerized with the music that flowed from Lord Krishna’s flute. They would surrender themselves to Him. Also, the research has proved that the plants which hear the music grow at a faster rate in comparison to the others.

Magical powers of music

It has a power to cure diseases such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, etc. The power of music can be testified by the legends about Tansen of his bringing the rains by singing Raag Megh Malhar and lighting lamps by Raga Deepak. It also helps in improving the concentration and is thus of great help to the students.

Music and brain health

Music seems to find re-routed paths and that is why it is such a useful tool in terms of helping people with different kinds of brain damage because it can help find new pathways in terms of brain functioning. Th reward system of the brain is highly associated with music. One specific rain formation. known as the striatum discharges substance called Dopamine in reaction to pleasure-related stimulating elements. The processing of music in the brain is done differently, than any other stimulating elements making it important for researchers to understand the effects of music on the brain.

Music therapy

Music therapy an allied health profession, is the clinical and evidence-based use ofmusic interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapy is a broad field. Music therapists use music-based experiences to address client needs in one or more domains of human functioning cognitive, academic, emotional/physiological, spiritual aesthetics. Music experience are strategically designed to utilize the elements of music for therapeutic effects, including melody, harmony, key mode, meter, rhythm, pitch/range, duration, timbre form, texture and instrumentation.

Evidence suggests that music therapy is beneficial for all individuals both physically and mentally. Benefits of music therapy include improved heart rate, reduced anxiety, stimulation of the brain and improved learning. Music therapists use their techniques to help their patients in many areas, ranging from stress relief before and after surgeries to neuropathologies such as Alzheimer’s disease. One study found that children who listened to music while having an IV inserted into their arms showed less distress and felt less pain than the children who did not listen to music while having an IV inserted. Studies on patients diagnosed with mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression have shown a visible improvements in their mental health after music therapy.

Conclusion

Music may cause you feel joyful, sad, anger, hyped up, relaxed etc and sometimes you can feel more than one emotion during a song. As research shows music not only affects what kind of mood we may be in, but also seem to have a habit of choosing music based on the moods we are already feeling.

Spiti Valley

If there is heaven on earth, then it is in Spiti and if you don’t believe us, google a few images. A few movies that were filmed at this scenic valley are Highway, Paap and Kesari. This Himalayan beauty is as beautiful in the winters, as it is in the summers. Tiny hamlets and serene monasteries are sprinkled across this desert mountain valley, and it is situated at a height of 13,000 feet.

Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass has always been fancied by filmmakers looking for a location that truly depicts the marvels hidden in the laps of the Himalayas. And films like Jab We Met, Dev D and Highway have immortalised the snow-clad stretches of Rohtang Pass on the big screen. It is a perfect choice for those who are yearning to take their bike out to the hills.

Pangong Tso Lake

Remember Kareena Kapoor riding a yellow scooter dressed in wedding attire in 3 Idiots or Shah Rukh Khan in Jab Tak Hai Jaan? Well, both those films were shot at this pristine blue lake with the stunning backdrop of magnificent mountains in Ladakh. These two movies put this beautiful place on the map of travellers once again. Of course, we’re guessing by the time this pandemic is over and free-flow travel returns, China will also be done with its mischiefs in the area. When you plan a visit to this unforgettable destination, be considerate of the locals and the ecosystem of this beautiful cold desert.

Shimla

Shimla and Mall Road have been a favourite among tourists for many decades now. But Bollywood made this familiar-looking hill station a favourite among Instagram-hungry travelers. This city situated on the Himalayan foothills makes appearances in films like Bang Bang, Jab We Met and 3 Idiots.

Gulmarg

Bollywood’s love affair with Kashmir started a long time ago, when Shammi Kapoor showed us a glimpse of the green meadows and snow-capped mountains. However, recently, other Bollywood films that showed the beauty of this paradise on earth were Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Highway, Haider, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Though YJHD presented Gulmarg as Manali, the Valley’s beauty lured tourists to witness its majestic and pristine mountains.

Manali

Though Manali was always a popular tourist spot, it became popular after the famous Hadimba temple made an appearance in Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The town saw a boost in tourism after the film, as young Bollywood buffs escaped the city madness to visit this backpacking site.

Goa

A list talking about the attractions which were made popular by Bollywood is never complete without Goa. Dil Chahta Hai made Goa the quintessential dream goal of every young millennial. After that, several other films were shot in the state, some of them being Socha Na Tha, Simmba, Dilwale, Drishyam… the list is endless. The best way to make the most of Goa is to hire a scooter and just explore. And in case you want to experience the less travelled places, visit the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary, Galgibaga Beach, Hollant Beach, Harvalem Falls and more. We don’t know if your trip will materialise after the pandemic, but one can always hope.

Udaipur

The royalty and the grandeur of Udaipur’s havelis have been very well captured by Bollywood filmmakers on celluloid. This scenic lake city made a grand appearance in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Ram Leela and is worth a visit. It is worth immersing yourself in the culture of this gorgeous city. So, when this pandemic is over, pick a weekend and hire a scooter as you go around just enjoying the cuisine, the art and the people.

Munnar

Deepika Padukone dancing in the middle of a tea plantation with Shah Rukh Khan is sure to remind you of Munnar. Kerala’s backwaters have always been an ideal tourist spot, but Chennai Express brought forth the idyllic beauty of the South. In fact, after Chennai Express, Nishabd and Life of Pi, Munnar became one of the most sought-after destinations in South India.

Darjeeling

From Main Hoon Na to Barfi, the film industry has always found inspiration in the splendid locales of Darjeeling. And of course, who can forget Rajesh Khanna singing Mere Sapnon Ki Rani for Sharmila Tagore in Aradhna as the toy train makes its way through the tea gardens. The lush tea gardens, the snow-capped mountains, the quaint architecture and the warm hospitality of its people make Darjeeling a place you would keep wanting to return to.

So, which destination are you visiting when this pandemic is over?

Technology and the Environment

How technology can play a role with respect to the environment:

The development of various types of technology in today’s time has given rise to more convenience and efficiency. Technology can be used to properly understand and address important challenges like climate change, degradation of the environment, scarcity of food, management of waste, along with other important global issues and challenges. Data can be consolidated and stored in various information systems online in the form of comprehensive portals. These portals can then be accessed by academicians, scientists, students, environmentalists, and anyone else as they need it. These expansive databases can cover a variety of areas such as wildlife conservation databases, marine flora databases, forest cover databases and the like.

A few technology systems which can be used for the betterment of the environment are:

  • Remote Sensing
  • Google Earth
  • Geographical Information System (GIS)
  • The World Wide Web
  • The database ENVIS: Environmental Information System

Remote Sensing

Remote sensing

Remote Sensing refers to obtaining information of a place from a distance. In this process, the physical characteristics of an area are detected and further monitored through the measurement of its reflected and emitted radiation. This is carried out with the help of remote sensors on satellites. A few applications of remote sensing are:

  • Finding out temperature changes in the ocean and air
  • Tracking changes in forested land
  • Making weather predictions

Google Earth

Google Earth

Google Earth is a map which gives three-dimensional views of the earth with the assistance of satellite imaging and other types of aerially conducted photography. Presently, Google Earth covers around 98% of the earth’s surface. Google earth doesn’t just cover land but also water. Through the use of Google Earth, it is possible to view below the surface of marine bodies and view the ocean floor by the method of bathymetry (study of the underwater depth of an ocean or lake floor).

Geographical Information System (GIS)

Geographical Information System (GIS)

The Geographical Information System is a spatial system which creates, manages, analyzes, organizes and maps different types of geographic data. Using the GIS software, it is possible to visually analyze a large volume of data. Through the usage of GIS, it is possible to bring together and integrate information from varying sources of information and have efficient data distribution and management. It can be used efficiently for Environmental Impact Assessment.

The World Wide Web (WWW)

World Wide Web (WWW)

The WWW is a collection of many electronic documents of varying types. It provides various types of resources about the environment, from journal reports and articles to animations and is available to a wide variety of people, right from students, to scientists to government officials. It provides, free, convenient, accessible, evolving and the latest information.

Database: ENVIS

ENVIS

ENVIS is a database known as the Environmental Information System. It was created by the Indian Ministry of Environment & Forests in 1983. Its goal is to collect environmental information, along with its subsequent organization, storage, recovery and distribution. The role of ENVIS is to provide people like policy makers, researchers and the like with environmental information.

Surveillance

Implications of surveillance

• Freedom of speech curtailed – journalists or dissidents who have
criticised the government – targeted.

• Faulty refuge under Statues – Indian Telegraph Act, 1885; section 69 and the
Interception Rules of 2009 under Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.
 Statutes provide way for surveillance, no protections to the surveilled.
 Even the opaque laws don’t provide for surveillance
 Hacking is a criminal offence under the IT Act.
• Threatens the separation of powers
 Judiciary can effectively over see and curtail such
powers being misused.
 Laws provides no scope for an individual subjected
to surveillance to approach a court of law.

Key Take-away

• Surveillance system impacts the right to privacy under Art. 21 – reiterated in K.S. Puttaswamy (Retd) v.
Union of India (2017) case.

• Impacts exercise of freedom of speech and personal liberty under Art. 19 of the Constitution.

• Mass surveillance – risk of concentration of powers
with the executive.

Peer Pressure among teenagers.

Who are peers?

People belonging to the same age group, sharing the same social status, friends are referred to as peers.

What is Peer Pressure?

Peer Pressure is the influence exerted by people belonging to the same social group. This pressure has the capacity to change the way a person behaves.

Peer Pressure among teenagers

The teenage phase of life is the most crucial and vulnerable phase. During this period of time, teenagers have the tendency to refrain from following the instructions of their elders and explore everything that they feel like without considering its consequences. Understanding about the influence of peer pressure among teenagers is very important because when a teenager grows, his peers plays an important role in shaping his nature and character, the way he behaves, how his likes, dislikes and preferences are established. The adult life of a person is somewhat shaped on the basis of his teenage phase.

Peer Pressure takes place in two ways. Generally, when discussing about peer pressure, the negative side is highlighted more than the positive side. Although a lot of teenagers goes through negative peer pressure, yet the positive side of the same cannot be denied.

Positive Peer Pressure

Peer Pressure has a lot of negative connotations but it too has a good side. Peer Pressure can also act as a reflecting tool for a person. In such type of peer pressure, peers can convince a person to do good things. Peers can encourage and motivate one another to accomplish their goals and dreams to become a better person in life. For example, encouraging a friend to study hard, score good grades and get a job. Positive peer pressure has the following benefits –

°° Leads to a stable and focussed mindset

°° Gain new experiences

°° Get rid of bad habits

°° Motivation to achieve goals

°° Healthy social life

°° Develop strong personal identity

°° Sound emotional state

Negative Peer Pressure

Negative Peer Pressure is the most common type of peer pressure. Almost everyone of us, knowingly or unknowingly has fallen prey to it. In negative peer pressure, peers convince a person to do something bad. A person might be pressurised to take a wrong or unethical decision. For example, encouraging a peer to bunk class, consume alcohol or get into a fight with someone. If a person succumbs to the negative peer pressure around him, he lands himself into trouble. In the teenage phase of life, an individual desires to get recognition and attention in the society and in thirst of that, he is ready to shun his own identity in order to fit into another group whom he admire. He would imitate the lifestyle, clothing pattern, hairstyle, way of interacting and even changes his likes and preferences. When an individual falls for negative peer pressure, he

°° loses his own identity

°° isolates himself from his near and dear ones

°° Adopt bad habits

°° Divert himself from his aims and goals in life

°° Lack confidence

°° Suffers mental health issues

°° Land himself into dangerous circumstances

How to cope with peer pressure

It is very important for the parents of the teenagers to identify what is going on with their child. The parents should establish a friendly relation with their children so that they approach their parents if they face any dilemma. Also, the parents should make the children differentiate between good and bad, right and wrong from a very early stage.

Even if a teenager falls for negative peer pressure, his elders should offer him a helping hand and stand by him to overcome all his problems. He should be taught self love and should be made aware of his own unique identity.

Peer pressure is not always bad but a person should identify what kind of peer pressure he is influenced by.

A STUDY OF ‘INEQUALITY’

Gender equality and women empowerment can be considered as the two sides of the same coin. Progress toward gender equality requires women‘s empowerment and women‘s empowerment requires increases in gender equality. Inequalities are imposed on females, particularly in patriarchal countries such as in India. These gender-based violence results lowered access to resources such as education, employment, and income, and limits their power over decision making and freedom of movement.

I conducted a survey, which aimed to elicit attitudes and opinions of youngsters towards some areas like women’s rights, role of women in society etc. The twenty responses – including males and females believe in gender equality and they do agree that the treatment towards women are not fair. They are facing troubles in employment, health and education related fields.

All of the respondents disagree to the statement that higher education is more important to the boys than girls. Educating girls saves lives and builds stronger families, communities and economies and an educated female population increases a country’s productivity too. Schools can provide girls with life skills, reproductive health knowledge and a social space to discuss issues. Education is also a key source to an independent life.
Interestingly two of the women who didn’t support the first question are not interested to work outside home. Women is not a commodity to be bought by her husband and made a chef and babysitter. No one can mean that she should be inside four walls as an indoor girl. Women, who choose to work, to the workforce is a benefit to society as a whole. Women think differently and so will contribute to a versatile environment in which new techniques and styles will be implemented. Men and women complement each other, hence working together will produce results which only men, or only women, may not have been able to produce on their own. This does not imply that men and women who work outside the home are allowed to opt out of their responsibilities at home. If both parties were to give their careers as much importance as maintaining stability within the home, we would have a system which isn’t oppressive plus enforces values.

Twenty responses support the concept of gender equality. It is intrinsically linked to sustainable development and is vital to the realization of human rights for all. The overall objective of gender equality is a society in which women and men enjoy the same opportunities, rights and obligations in all spheres of life. Women have made significant progress entering male-dominated jobs like finance, law and medicine–over the past several decades. But still many female-dominated jobs tend to pay less than male-dominated ones, even when skill levels and education requirements are equivalent. All the respondents agree that gender equality is not practicing in the world- but we have progressed. They view that life is generally better for men than it is for women and more changes are needed to achieve equal rights for women.

Girls and women suffer most of the negative impact of rigid gender norms and roles – they are more likely to experience restrictions of their freedom and mobility, they experience epidemic levels of violence and harassment across the globe and have fewer opportunities to choose how to live their lives. Unequal societies are less cohesive. They have higher rates of anti-social behavior and violence. Countries with greater gender equality are more connected. Their people are healthier and have better wellbeing. Parents, government, teachers etc are responsible for ensuring gender equality and the building up of this concept should begin from one’s childhood itself. Gender-based inequalities translate into greater value being placed on the health and survival of males than of females. In general, the report finds that gender inequality is persistent in every domain examined, and women are disempowered both absolutely and relative to men.

NOVELS OF MARQUEZ

The Colombian Nobel Prize winner Gabriel Garca Marquez tells the story of a plague of insomnia that afflicted the Buendia family in the town of Macondo in his novel One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967). As time passed, all family members lost their memories and lost track of their identities, but they were able to recollect their stories as told by a Gypsy who came to town once. Garcia Marquez shows how storytelling in our collective memories serves the foundations of our human nature in this novel. The vast literature about plagues, pestilences, and pandemics shows that we are inextricably linked to one another, to life in general, and to the natural world’s wild powers. “All that was needed was shrewd questioning… to conclude once again that the symptoms of love were the same as those of cholera.

The reader will feel both at home and far away in Garcia Marquez’s world. It is influenced by the Cuban Revolution on the one hand, but it is also focused on the turn of the century. On the one hand, Garcia Marquez’s tale adheres to the stylistic standards of “high art,” but it is influenced by a variety of elements from popular culture. It restores literature’s time-honored mission of entertaining through the simple act of narrating, implying that the texture in which the real and the imaginary, the autobiographical and the collective, are intermingled and has no justification other than the revival of the forgotten art of story-telling. No other book exemplifies this more vividly than Love in the Time of Cholera, because it is immediately apparent in this novel how the author reworks romantic clichés in an extraordinarily unique approach. In reality, the novel might be viewed as a kind of frieze depicting all stages of love, from adolescence to old age, Platonic and erotic, lawful and illicit, transitory and everlasting, childish yet profound.

Gabriel Garca Márquez’s novel Love in the Time of Cholera was set during the sixth cholera pandemic, which lasted from 1899 to 1923 and was published in 1985 as El amor en los tiempos del cólera. The novel, which deals with themes of love, ageing, and death, takes place in a South American community ravaged by wars and cholera outbreaks between the late 1870s and the early 1930s. The tale is set in the Colombian walled city of Cartagena, and it revolves around Florentino Ariza, who falls in love at first sight with Fermina Daza, who marries her father’s preference, Dr. Juvenal Urbino. When the doctor passes away, Florentino resumes his courtship of Fermina. Ironically, their spirit of unwavering devotion contrasts with the surrounding corporeal decay.

Florentino Ariza, a young telegraph operator in a Caribbean port city in the late 1800s, falls madly in love with Fermina Daza, a beautiful student. They keep their romance hidden through letters and telegrams because she is so sheltered. When Fermina Daza’s father learns of her suitor, he takes her on a trip to help her forget about it. Lorenza Daza has far higher aspirations for his daughter than Florentino does. Her anguish at being separated from her lover is palpable, but when she returns, she ends the relationship, claiming all that has happened between them to be a figment of her imagination. Instead, she marries Dr. Juvenal, an elegant, educated, and wealthy man. She would deem herself the happiest woman on the planet for being his wife. Florentino Ariza, despite being devastated by her rejection, is unmoved. He has proclaimed his everlasting love for Fermina and is eager to obtain the fame and wealth he deserves in order to regain her. Florentino Ariza addresses Fermina again at her husband’s funeral, 51 years, 9 months, and 4 days after her husband’s death. There have been hundreds of other partnerships, but none of them have had the same effect on him as Fermina. One of his lovers says, “He is ugly and sad, but he is all love.” Garca Márquez beautifully and unflinchingly examines the essence of love in all its forms, small and big, passionate and serene, in this magnificent romance novel. Love can strike these characters like a plague, but it can also survive harsh decades of war and cholera, as well as the effects of time itself.

Kahaani: A Review

Kahaani was released on the 9th of March, 2012. It is a thriller movie. It is directed by Sujoy Ghosh and stars Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chatterjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in titular roles. The original plot of the movie has come from the director, Sujoy Ghosh himself. He has co-written the script along with Advaita Kala. Set in Kolkata against the backdrop of the Durga Pooja, the film’s story follows the search Vidya Bagchi (played by Vidya Balan), a pregnant woman carries out in search of her missing husband, with the assistance of Kolkata police officer Satyoki ‘Rana’ Sinha (played by Parambrata Chatterjee) and Intelligence Bureau agent Khan (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui).

Kahaani is a very well-written movie. The story never becomes dull, and keeps you guessing right until the end. The plot twists and turns continuously, right until its shocking climax amid the Durga Pooja celebrations. All the characters have substance to them and make their presence felt in the plot, right from the main cast to the supporting cast. Vidya Balan has been amazing in her portrayal of the protagonist, Vidya Bagchi, seeming to effortlessly capture her strength and vulnerability. The character who will steal your heart, however, is none other than Satyoki ‘Rana’ Sinha. Parambrata Chatterjee has portrayed the kind and innocent police officer effortlessly. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been perfect as the no-nonsense, ruthless Khan; with him giving a very raw performance. Saswata Chatterjee has given a wonderful performance as the chilling Bob Biswas.

The movie has been shot exclusively in Kolkata. Most of its cast is comprised of local Bengali actors. The director Sujoy Ghosh has expertly made a natural use of the topography and people of Kolkata to give the scenes a more authentic by employing the use of guerilla filmmaking. The filmography has been praised by multiple critics and movie-goers, to the point that some consider even Kolkata the city as a character in the movie.

Kahaani was a box office success. Produced on a budget of 80 million Rupees, it went on to earn a worldwide earning of around 1.04 billion Rupees after a fifty-day cinema run. The movie was praised by multiple critics for its refreshing storyline, fleshed out characters, as well as, use of the city of Kolkata in furthering the narrative. The movie, along with its director and cast has been nominated for various awards. Vidya Balan, in particular, earned may awards due to her stunning portrayal of Vidya Bagchi. The film has in total won twenty-eight awards. In the 58th Filmfare Awards, it won five out of six awards it was nominated in. Sujoy Ghosh and Vidya Balan have won multiple Best Director and Best Lead Actress awards respectively for their performance in the movie. In the 60th National Film Awards, it won Sujoy Ghosh Best Screenplay (Original), Namrata Rao Best Editing and Nawazuddin Siddiqui a Special Jury Award.

  • Plan lots of relaxing activities, too.
  • Bounce back to your normal schedule toward the end.

The first thing that you will need to do in order to have any hope of a relaxing vacation is to take time off of work. This will include notifying your workplace that you will not be there for a specified amount of time, with an advanced written notice if necessary. In doing this, you should be very clear with your supervisor or business partners that you will not be available to do any work during your vacation. Often times, other people will get the wrong idea about what you really mean when you tell them that you are taking time off of work. To avoid any confused calls from work while you are relaxing on the beach, it is best to let everyone know right away what your going on.

While your on a trip, it is wise to get rid of your electronics a s much as possible. Of course, you will need your smartphone throughout the day to be able to make calls and get directions, but you should not be using it when it is not absolutely necessary. If you have direct access to your text messages and emails at the tip of you fingers all day, you will be tempted to check business when you really shouldn’t be.

To distract yourself from wanting to check your electronics, you should put all your focus in to relaxing during your vacation. This means that if the thought of work or personal matters start to creep into your mind, you must keep yourself on the right track instead of entertaining these urges.

When it comes to what you will actually be doing on your vacation, you should leave some of your schedule open in order to give yourself time to relax. Sometimes when you are extremely stressed out, the only thing that you need is to lay on the beach or take a nap in your giant hotel bed.

For a period of time where you are not busy doing nothing, you can occupy yourself with a few fun activities in the city that you are travelling to. These activities can be anything from guided tours to hikes or sitting down at a restaurant. Basically anything that you plan to participate in can also help you relax at the same time that they are entertaining you. For instance, you can book a trip to the spa or get an in-room massage that might b offered by the hotel you are staying at.

When you are coming toward the end of your relaxing vacation, you will want to ease back into your normal schedule instead of abruptly ending the habits that you have established on your trip. After all, nobody wants to get used to sleeping in until noon every day for a week and then waking up the next day at 7 to jump out of bed and go right back to work. This is especially true when you are travelling outside of the country and have gotten used to any time difference between each location.

In order to slowly bounce back to your normal schedule, you can start to gradually wake up earlier as you get closer to your day of departure. This way, your body will be well rested and ready for anything once you return home.

1991 Economic Reforms

• India met with an economic crisis relating to
its external debt.
 Unable to make repayments on its borrowings from abroad.
 Foreign exchange reserves had dropped to
very low levels.
 Further compounded by rising prices of
essential goods.

• Origin of the financial crisis – from the
inefficient management of the Indian economy
in the 1980s.
 Foreign exchange was spent on meeting
consumption needs.
 Minimal effort to reduce such profligate
spending or boosting export.

• India approached the World Bank and the
International Monetary Fund.

• Agreed to the conditionalities of WB and IMF-
announced the New Economic Policy (NEP).
 A wide-ranging economic reforms.
 Initiated a variety of policies based on
liberalisation, privatisation and globalization.

• Post 1991 reforms- India’s export sector has
not changed much.

• Huge foreign exchange reserve- a result of
huge financial inflows, not export surpluses.
• Key elements to improve a country’s export
competitiveness.
 publicly provided infrastructure, private R&D
and a facilitating government machinery.

• Mostly available in India’s software services-
exporters, not for exporters of goods.
 India’s trade in services generally has a
surplus; deficit is mostly in trade of tangible
goods.

• Need for strong export performance- cannot rely on volatile portfolio capital against balance of payments stress.

• Way forward:

Need serious structural revisions to ensure necessary infrastructure in our country.

7 Indian Male Influencers Who Are Breaking Gender Stereotypes About Skincare And Make-Up

Indian Male Influencers Wearing Makeup and Skincare: Here are 7 Indian men on social media who are redefining beauty and proving that makeup is meant for anyone who wants to wear it.

Make-up and skincare market has been a women dominated sphere for very long. Nevertheless, just like how women have been making way to previously male dominated spheres and acing it, many men are similarly breaking away from the reins of gender stereotypes and entering this women-dominated sphere of beauty and lifestyle.

They have been ‘shining bright and colourfully’ by unapologetically donning the brightness and colour of not only their confidence and personality, but also of the make-up and skincare they adorn on their faces.

The conversation around men wearing make-up has been reignited with Babil Khan’s recent post on Instagram where he wrote about getting shamed for using skincare products. “Can you believe some people STILL go, “Are you a girl?” when I apply face masks or make-up before going out?” he says.

His post highlights the rigid gender norms which restrict men from doing any task considered ‘feminine’ by the society. In fact, why does make-up and skincare need to be attributed as ‘feminine’ even now? It is important to understand that make-up and skincare make people look attractive, which in turn boosts a person’s self-confidence. Many prefer wearing make-up as it makes feel good about themselves; it is a form of expression for many as makeup is a form of art too. Skin-care is beneficial for one’s skin. So, why should we shame men who wish to exercise their choice to look better, care for their skin or express themselves through a form of art?

Moreover, as opposed to what Babil suggested, a man doesn’t need to ‘recognise the woman’ in them to wear make-up. It’s high time we understood that beauty products are gender-neutral and move away from the unreasonable stereotypes given to make-up and skin-care habits, which confine men as well as belittle those who wish to break these beauty norms. In short, makeup and skincare are for everyone, irrespective of gender and sexuality.

Here are 7 Indian male influencers who are using their platform to bring a change in the perception that beauty products are women-oriented:

Ankush Bahuguna

If you are an active user of Instagram, Ankush Bahuguna must be already known to you. With more than 700K followers, he is one of the most popular Indian influencers on the virtual platform. Ankush creates humorous and relatable content as well as make-up experiments and tutorials, which have garnered widespread recognition and praise.

He has been lauded for spreading the message of normalising makeup for every person who wants to wear it. He recently opened another Instagram, with the username @wingitwithankush, where he not only posts his own makeup tutorials, but also him doing make-up for other people.

In a video he posted, he talked about his love for his skin-care routine. He captioned, “Can’t give you #skincare advice because I’m not dermal. But I can tell you this – Skincare is therapeutic. It’s the little ‘me time’ you need. It’s loving your body back. It’s not just for women. Skincare is for everyone.”

“Makeup may temporarily hide your acne and your dark circles but it’s not going to make your skin any healthier. Only Skincare and a clean diet will,” he added.

Siddharth Batra

Siddharth Batra is a popular fashion stylist and influencer whose unconventional fashion style and dressing as well as his suave grooming and beauty tips are loved by many. With over 200K followers on Instagram, he is redefining beauty for men with one post or reel at a time.

From immaculate reels on shattering the norm of gender-specific clothing to posting videos on #guybeauty skin-care and make-up for every occasion, he has done it all with ‘style and statement’.

Furthermore, he also inspires people with his own journey of body transformation. He posted a video on his account capturing his journey  of weight loss, with a caption, “Honestly, fitness is a consistent/constant journey and it’s important to prioritise our health and well-being. I try my best everyday and hope to continue.”

Shantanu Dhope

With a hard-hitting bio ‘Brown boys wear makeup too’, he is a rising social media influencer based in Mumbai, with over 36.2K followers on his Instagram handle. His dazzling eye-makeup and face arts are nothing but major makeup goals and leave his followers amazed with his prowess as a makeup artist.

Be it his Halloween edition reels or his successful attempt at combining Indian menswear and makeup, he is definitely the one every makeup enthusiast should follow on Instagram in order to get served with looks and inspiration.

Deep Pathare

With 20.6K followers on Instagram, Deep Pathare is another rising queer influencer in the circle of Indian content creators. With a make-up channel on Youtube as well, his content reflects his own ideals of ‘Stop Labelling and Start Living’. His vibrant hues, dewy base and spotless blending make-up looks mirror his artistic flair which is truly to die for.

In a recent video of Ankush Bahuguna’s Everyone deserves to be accepted where Deep featured, he, along with other influencers, talked about how we need to stop making statements like ‘Not all men who do makeup are gay’ as it stems from the notion that this needs validation because it is also done by cis-gendered heterosexual men. Furthermore, he asserted that we should normalise men wearing makeup not because they could also be straight, but because make-up is for everyone.

Yashwant Singh

Yashwant Singh is a beauty blogger with more than 14K followers, who have been making content on beauty and skincare tips and advice by reviewing and recommending the right kind of beauty products. He also posts remedies and other important information associated with skincare.

Since then, he hasn’t looked back and often posts videos on Korean makeup routines for men and hacks for flawless skin. Tips to build movement in your day

Sitting for long hours and not moving physically can eventually become a habit that can affect both the brain and body. Here are five tips to improve your movement.

Digital Breaks

Because of the pandemic, most of our work and academics have revolutionised into digital format. Which has resulted in all of us staring either at our laptops or mobile. Having digital breaks and moving around the house or maybe on your balcony would not only help in physical movement but will also help in reducing the eyestrain caused by the blue light from the digital devices.

Give Yourself a Break

Give yourself a digital free break. Done attending your online classes? Or finished an office meeting? get up and walk around. You may not believe but just walking around the house is much better than sitting on a chair.

Stand or Walk

Want to surf some Instagram feed? Try standing up and watch it. The same applies to calls. If you are on a voice-call ‘walk & talk’, try walking around the house while you are talking to your friend. This will not only improve your movement, but you will also get both the work done at the same time.

Pep Stretch

After working for long hours straight, try to get off the chair and stretch your body. Try stretching your arms, wrists, neck etc it would not only cause some movement but will also improve blood circulation.

Walking in Nature

Walking in nature not only causes movement physically but also makes you happier and significantly improves your mental health. Also, the body’s melatonin secretion is also improved by walking in nature, which helps to sleep.

Sustainable Development: An Overview

The Concept of Sustainable Development

The term ‘Sustainable Development’ was created in 1987 by the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED). The creation Sustainable Development is a concept in which human society lives in such a way it meets its own present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to come to meet their own needs. Sustainable development is achieved when there is a healthy balance between environment sustainability, social sustainability and economic sustainability. Environment sustainability focuses on continued environmental quality. Social sustainability focuses on human rights, equality, cultural identity, cultural diversity, and rights and equality of people belonging to different races and religions. Economic sustainability focuses on the maintenance of human, natural and social capital which is needed for proper standards of living and income. A balance between all three, ensuring that no other factor is imbalanced or ignored, is what brings about true sustainable development. According to the concept of sustainable development, the regeneration or creation of a resource must be greater than its degeneration or usage. Sustainable development ensures that biodiversity is maintained and preserved.

A few examples of methods and activities which can contribute to sustainable development are:

  • Crop rotation
  • Using wind energy
  • Using solar energy
  • Creating green spaces

Components of Sustainable Development:

As mentioned previously, sustainable development has three components: Environmental sustainability, Social sustainability and Economical sustainability. A few ways they can be achieved are:

Environmental Sustainability:

  • Helping out disadvantaged or sidelined communities to progress
  • Improving the basic quality of life everyone should have
  • Ensuring that there is no negative effect or impact on small communities, tribal groups and the like

  • Creating new markets
  • Creating new sale growth opportunities
  • Improving efficiency
  • Reducing the quantity of raw materials required
  • Implementing cost reduction techniques of various kinds

The Top Online Learning Platforms To Kickstart Your Career in 2021

Whether you want to gain new marketable talents or just want to learn something new for pleasure, online learning platforms are a terrific and convenient way to learn on your own time. These platforms, as an alternative to online universities, tend to be a little more flexible and may even offer more unique or uncommon classes that you wouldn’t find at a typical college, but prospective students should weigh their options to determine which is best for them. Here are just a few of our top picks for the greatest online learning platforms, ranging from Masterclass to Coursera, so you can get started right away.

My top selections for the greatest online course platforms to use this year are listed below.

Coursera

Coursera has created a name for itself in recent years by offering top-tier university courses to online students. More than 50 million students have accessed courses from universities such as Duke, Stanford, and Yale thanks to this California-based elearning network.I have to add that their iOS and Android mobile app is one of the best I’ve used. It actually makes it quite simple for students to follow courses while on the go — it even allows free courses to be viewed offline.

What are the advantages of Coursera:

  1. Course quality: As you might expect from universities like Stanford, Duke, and Yale, Coursera’s courses are among the best.
  2. Coursera offers a wide range of courses, including individual courses, specializations, and higher education degrees.
  3. Because Coursera collaborates with these colleges, you’ll be able to receive authentic certifications for your courses.
  4. Free courses: You can enroll in practically any Coursera class for free if you don’t plan on earning a completion certificate.

EDX

With over 34 million students having registered in one of their 3,000+ courses, edX has a large user base. The premise is similar to Coursera’s in that it makes top-tier university courses available to the general public. You can also enroll in a variety of different course kinds. MicroBachelors, MicroMasters, Professional Certificates, and Master’s Degrees, for example, are available. You’ll find the one that’s right for you.

What are the benefits of edX:

  1. Official certifications: As edX works with colleges such as Harvard, Berkeley, MIT, and Boston University, you’ll be able to obtain authorized certificates.
  2. Courses are available for free: Most courses will be available for free (assuming you aren’t seeking for a certificate).
  3. Many courses can be started at any time that is convenient for you. In addition, you can enroll in a variety of courses.
  4. Course quality: As you may expect, the quality of edX courses is extremely good because they are created by premier universities.

Udemy

It’s likely that you’ve heard of Udemy, an online educational platform. With over 50 million students and over 155,000 courses, Udemy is perhaps the most popular elearning platform.

Udemy is a global marketplace for online courses where you can discover classes on almost any subject from a variety of instructors (even in languages like Spanish, German, French or Chinese).

What are the advantages of Udemy:

  1. Choice: Udemy has the most courses, so you’ll be able to locate
  2. Free courses: Udemy has a large number of free courses. Make sure to check them out if you want to learn for free.
  3. Return policy: A liberal 30-day refund policy is in place. Return the course if you are dissatisfied with it.

Skillshare

This online education platform, which originated in New York, has over 5 million students and provides a wide choice of courses for $99 a year ($15 if you pay monthly). Skillshare began as an elearning platform for creatives, but it has since expanded to include a wider range of topics (e.g. IT, business, language-learning, etc.).

Skillshare’s advantages are as follows:

  1. Free courses: Skillshare offers 10% of its courses for free, and there are currently over 2,000 programs accessible. Please note that free members do not have access to offline viewing.
  2. Choice: With over 25,000 courses, there aren’t many choices (aside from Udemy) that can match Skillshare’s selection.
  3. Price: A Skillshare premium subscription costs $99 per year (if paid in advance) or $15 per month (if paid monthly) – less than Spotify.
  4. Course quality: Because anybody can publish, course quality ranges from one to the next. Some lessons, however, are created by Skillshare and renowned firms such as Mailchimp or Google, and are usually of high quality.

MasterClass

Although MasterClass provides more than simply creative classes, its most popular are those that feature A-list actors, writers, painters, singers, and others as instructors.

And they aren’t just one-time “talk” sessions: Like a regular course, most courses feature roughly 20 lessons, allowing you to delve deeply into your chosen topic. If you want to understand more about these often-mysterious professions, there’s no better way than to hear from those who have previously succeeded.

These video-based courses combine straightforward lectures, workbooks, and class discussions with practical guidance and demonstrations.

You can take as many sessions as you wish within a monthly membership because MasterClass is a subscription-based platform. The cost of unrestricted access is around $15 per month, but students must sign up for a year at a time.

Conclusion

The most important thing is to make the most of your educational opportunities. This is the rule to follow when deciding which platform to utilize; select one that will help you get the most out of it.

Common Menstruation Myths in India

What is Menstruation?

Menstruation is a natural phenomenon particular to women. It is a part of the women’s reproductive cycle and this cycle occurs at the onset of puberty. During menstruation, blood and tissues of the uterus is discharged from the vagina that lasts for 3 to 6 days.

Despite being a natural process, menstruation is highly stigmatized. Merely pronouncing the word ‘Menstruation’ which is commonly known as periods is considered as a taboo. This natural, biological process is trapped in myths which directly or indirectly create obstacles in the socio – cultural life of women. A menstruating woman is treated like an impure and unwanted being. The taboos regarding menstruation has been circulated from one generation to another since a very long time and unfortunately even now, people still have misconceptions regarding this natural process.

Common myths regarding Menstruation

1. MYTH – A menstruating woman cannot enter a place of worship.

FACT – Menstruation is purely biological and has nothing to do with religion.

2. MYTH – Menstrual blood is impure.

FACT – Menstrual blood is not impure. It is the blood that sheds from the lining of the uterus when the egg is not fertilized during the menstrual cycle.

3. MYTH – A menstruating woman is not allowed to enter into the kitchen and are also not allowed to touch pickles.

FACT – In the earlier days, women during their periods used cloth which was extremely unhygienic that led to many dieseases and infections. In that case, it was not preferred for a bleeding woman to enter into the kitchen and touch pickles or any other things in the kitchen. But now when women are using sanitary pads during their periods which is safe, it doesn’t lead to dieseases and infections and this is why there is no need to impose such restrictions.

4. MYTH – A menstruating woman should not come into contact with any family members because she is considered to be in an impure state.

FACT – Because menstruation is a biological phenomenon, there is no way that a woman can be considered to be impure. There is no harm if she come into contact with her family members when she is on her periods.

5. MYTH – Women on their periods should not go near plants as it will kill the plants.

FACT – Plants survive on sunlight, water, manure and good care and their lifespan is not effected if someone goes near them.

6. MYTH – A menstruating woman should refrain from engaging in physical activities like exercise.

FACT – Engaging in physical activities does not harm a menstruating woman rather it helps them to get rid of menstrual cramps.

7. MYTH – There is nothing like PMS.(Pre Menstrual Syndrome)

FACT – PMS is a real thing. A woman on her periods often goes through mixed emotional feelings, anxiety, gets disturbed at little issues etc. Women should consult a doctor if they face these conditions severely during their periods.

8. MYTH – A woman on her periods should not take bath or wash her hair

FACT – It is completely safe for women to take bath during periods. In fact, it is essential for a woman to keep herself clean and maintain hygiene when she is in her periods.

9. MYTH – A woman on her periods should not indulge in sexual activities.

FACT – There is no health problem associated with indulging in sexual activities when a woman is on her periods.

10. MYTH – Do not talk about periods publicly.

FACT – Young girls should be educated about their bodily changes and menstruation right before the time they attain puberty. Also, there is nothing to be embarrassed to talk about periods openly rather it is important to create awareness among people regarding this natural process to swipe away taboos.

Myths relating to menstruation effect a woman’s mental, social and emotional state. Adolescent girls should be made aware of menstrual health and they should be educated enough to distinguish between myths and facts. Awareness should be created among people regarding menstruation so that people stop believing in myths that will help in improving the reproductive health of women.

PERIODS: A NO SHAME

Periods, why don’t we ever talk about periods? Why every women are treated as disgust and impure while they are in periods? today, I’m here to talk about Periods.
periods are marks of feminity and fertility and hug part of women’s life. It is a natural part for women. Its other name is Menstruation, which is normal vaginal bleeding from the female body in every monthly cycle. Though periods are nothing but just bleeding, still they are shamed, just because they bleed. Women and girls in India are taught to hide their periods, it’s just the mentality of people that those who are in periods are untouchables and should be away for few days.

This affects the mental health of women and girls because from an early age itself they are being taught something different which makes them feel there is something wrong with the body. As above I said women are untouchable and said to stay away because there is some sort of weird restrictions held for women in periods. Such as, you can’t go in the kitchen, you can’t return touched stuff, they are not allowed to bathe during three days of their periods, they aren’t allowed to enter the premises of a temple, touching the pickles and many more such restrictions are on the women. In rural areas, after childbirth women are not allowed to meet the child’s father, it continues around 2 months. Sex during periods is also another myth, it’s not about infection or any other hygiene issue but it is a cause of men’s longevity. It is also believed that menstrual blood is used for witchcraft and black magic to cast some spells. These all are devoid of any logic and also the religious myths and superstitions that have disbanded women from all such activities.

Menstruating is not just only bleeding but it is also about the pain, headaches, body aches, bloating weight gain, and many more such things they bear for the next 7 days. It’s just not easy and unerring for the women to handle such mental trauma and such ruthless behavior, they don’t deserve such a thing. Many women in rural areas don’t have proper sanitation and cleanliness, because they have no idea what to do and how to work upon. The prices of sanitary pads are too high, so they tend to use rough/rags for periods, they aren’t able to afford such things and then it leads to infection and diseases. But now our government has made menstrual-related strategies to combat the situation of women’s health. Empowerment of women through educating such things and also the increase in the role of their decision making. The movie ‘Pad Man’ has shown similar problems in it, it showed that women were having issues during their menstrual days, so the man named Muruganatham made his machine for the affordable pads. He travels with his machine from village to village to spread some awareness on this. ‘Padma is the first feature movie that talks about women’s situation during periods.

In India, 8,000 million girls/women are menstruating, and a million of them have dropped their schooling due to periods of poverty and shame. The government is doing a great job in spreading awareness in rural areas so that girls and women stay healthy. So let’s spread the word, break this channel of nonbeliefs and help each other out.

Should men wear makeup?

Makeup is gender less – simply an extremely incredible asset that can produce confidence. This isn’t about men needing to be female; it’s just about making the most ideal adaptation of ourselves. Be that as it may, there is as yet an enormous shame connected to men self-upgrading. I’m not saying each man should wear cosmetics, however the individuals who need or need it to help themselves feel great inside their own skin ought not be deceived. Nonetheless, numerous men feel the strain to look great and satisfy excellence guidelines, as well. We regularly hear phrases like ‘monitoring up’, ‘continuing ahead with it’ and being ‘solid and quiet’, and this has passed on men little space to reposition or rethink themselves in the public eye.

Be that as it may, numerous men feel the strain to look great and fulfill excellence guidelines, as well. We frequently hear phrases like ‘monitoring up’, ‘continuing ahead with it’ and being ‘solid and quiet’, and this has passed on men little space to reposition or rethink themselves in the public eye. We realize sexism harms ladies, yet we don’t talk as much about how sexism harms men. For what reason are men expected to be saved inwardly? We are largely people, we get nervousness and have self-perception issues as well.

Despite the decisions and your sex, the general public will consistently pass judgment and talk about you. You’ll never satisfy everybody, and that is OK. You weren’t brought into the world to if it’s not too much trouble, each second individual you meet.

ENVIRONMENT

Environment means anything that surround us. It can be living (biotic) or non-living (abiotic) things. It includes physical, chemical and other natural forces. Living things live in their environment. They constantly interact with it and adapt themselves to conditions in their environment. In the environment there are different interactions between animals, plants, soil, water and other living and non-living things.

Since everything is part of the environment of something else, the word environment is used to talk about many things. People in different fields of knowledge use the word environment differently. Electromagnetic environment is radio waves and other electromagnetic radiation and magnetic fields. The environment of galaxy refers to conditions of interstellar medium. In psychology and medicine, a person’s environment is the people, physical things and places that the person lives with. The environment affects the growth and development of the person. It affects the person’s , body, mind and heart. The living conditions of living organisms in an environment are affected by the weather or climate changes in the environment.

Importance of environment

we truly cannot understand the real worth of the environment. But we can estimate some of its importance. Environment plays an important role in healthy living and the existence of life on planet earth. Earth is a home for different living species and we all are dependent on the environment on the environment for food, air, water and other needs. Therefore, it is important for every individual to save and protect our environment. The entire life support of humans depends wholly on the environmental factors. It also helps in maintaining various life cycles on earth. Most importantly, our environment is the source of natural beauty and is necessary for maintaining physical and mental health.

Impact of human activities on the environment

In order to meet the basic needs of increases population, the present society has under taken a series of steps like rapid industrialization, unplanned urbanization, over-exploitation of natural sources, etc. There are different types of human activities which are directly attributed to the environmental disasters, which include acid rain, acidification of oceans, change in the climate, deforestation, depletion of an ozone layer, disposal of hazardous wastes, global warming, overpopulation, pollution etc.

Benefits of the environment

The environment gives us countless benefits that we can’t repay our entire life. As they are connected with the forest, tress, animals, water and air. The forests and tress filter the air and absorb harmful gases. Plants purify water, reduce the chances of flood maintain natural balance and many others. Moreover, the environment keeps a close check on the environment and its functioning, it regulates the vital systems that are essential for the ecosystem. Besides, it maintains the culture and quality of life on earth. The environment regulates various natural cycles that happen daily. These cycles help in maintaining the natural balance between living things and the environment.

Disturbance of these things can ultimately affect the life cycle of humans and other living beings. The environment that helped us and other living beings to flourish and grow from thousands of years. The environment provides u fertile land, water, air, livestock and many essential things for survival.

Why Shame Periods?

At present times, people still do not prefer to talk about periods openly in public. It is still considered something that women should be shy of. But why? Why do people see menstruation as taboo? It is a natural and must-needed phenomenon of a woman’s life. A woman is also a part of growing the generation and bringing life into existence. And periods are extremely important for this process to take place. We all love our mother and sister. Everyone wishes to have a girlfriend. Everyone wants to get marry, have a wife, have children with her. Then why is it so in our society that a woman has to be ashamed of something which is natural and god gifted? Instead, why do women not accept the fact publicly and talk about it openly?

Why is it so important?

We are now in the 21st century. And if still, this is the scenario then there is no point in technological advancements if people are not broad-minded. Menstruation is a serious matter and it is important that everyone is aware of it. For this, one should know the significance of periods in a woman’s life.

As a woman, monthly periods are the way of removing unwanted tissues from the body which are no longer needed. Body release eggs regularly that are responsible for the pregnancy. But if a woman does not get fertilized within some span, then the eggs get perished. If these are not removed from the body on time then, it will affect the health of a woman adversely.

Some orthodoxy ritual to be followed

As a woman, especially being an Indian woman, she has to follow a lot of rules and regulations while on menstruation. But why is it needed? Is it a necessity in present times? No, it is not. Women during menstruation are isolated and asked to stay different from everyone. They have to choose a corner in a room and spend few days in that corner itself. They are not allowed to touch things or go near things that are used by other members in the room. It is prohibited for a girl to enter a room where gods are worshipped. Women are not allowed to visit sacred places these days. All these things do not sound good right. But every single thing has a reason for its existence.

Save our girls - myRepublica - The New York Times Partner, Latest news of Nepal in English, Latest News Articles

In older times, there were no proper hygiene practices available for periods. There were no sanitary napkins or tampons or anything like that available to maintain hygiene. The women would make the surroundings dirty during these days. And as a result, she was kept in isolation. Because there were no proper hygiene practices, she was not allowed to enter sacred rooms or temples. She would lose a lot of blood and hence, she was asked to take a rest instead of working with other family members. But nowadays all these things are not needed to follow. There are proper hygiene practices available. Plus, why should a woman stay away from someone (God) while he himself is the creator of all this.

Summing up

To sum up everything, I believe periods should not be treated as taboo. Instead, it is something that no one should be uncomfortable or ashamed of talking about. It is a natural process that is highly important for a girl’s health. And also, it is one of the important assets for bringing the next generation into this world.

6 Bollywood Songs That Should’ve Never Been Remade Proving We Need More Original Numbers

Bollywood music is going through a phase where every song has a remix and none of the remixes are better than the original ones.

So, all the songs that you used to dance on at weddings and other occasions now have their own remixes, and listening to them will only make you miss the original song more and more.

Not only Bollywood songs but even Punjabi songs that aren’t even old yet have new versions and it’s only confusing us.

Now, this also makes us to think that the song producers, at large, don’t have any creativity left in them anymore to make better songs or maybe they are just plain lazy.

However, most of the original songs haven’t even faded from our memories and we still enjoy listening to them.

Here is a list of six Bollywood remixes that have ruined the original version for us forever:

1. Sauda Khara Khara

This song is a DJ’s favourite and is played at almost all wedding functions and honestly, even if they didn’t make a new version we’d be happily listening to the original song. The original is Sukhbir’s version and makes people want to dance on its beats.

A remix was recently seen in the film GOOD NEWWZ starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh

2. Dus Bahane

Have you heard ‘Dus Bahane 2.0’ from Baaghi 3? If you haven’t, just to preserve the memory of the old version, don’t listen to it. The original version is perfectly fine and no one needs the remix version of Dus Bahane to ruin it.

3. Love Aaj Kal

Imtiaz Ali recycled his own film with same songs, worse storyline and different actors. Viewers didn’t see any need to murder the original film and its songs. From ruining the song Dooriyan for us to copy-pasting the song Twist, we just didn’t need this at all.

4. Ek Toh Kum Zindagani

We can’t get over Rekha’s sass in the song and extraordinary beats that made everyone dance. The new version has Nora Fatehi and we just didn’t need a remix for this one.

5. O Saki Saki

Nora Fatehi’s dance moves are delight to look at in the new version but if you listen to the song without the video, its not as good as the original one. This song just didn’t need the new version and we are just going to listen to the original one happily.

6. Muqabla

The remake of the song just breaks my heart but looking at Prabhu Deva dancing again is a little consolation. However, the original song’s lyrics and its vibe cannot be compared to the new one as its out of the world!!

What Is The Best Way To Pick A Blog Topic?

Building a blog requires time and work, and the topic you choose for your blog is critical to its success. Although narrowing the pool of potential readers by focusing on one topic narrows the pool of readers, your viewers are more likely to return.

Make sure you don’t make the mistake of picking the wrong topic…

The most typical question I get from people who are new to blogging is “Can you suggest a topic for me to write about?” This is the first important decision you’ll make, and it’s also the first place where things might go wrong. If you pick the wrong topic, you’ll start down the wrong route and it could take months before you realize it and alter course. Here are some frequent blunders individuals make while deciding on a blog topic:

  1. Don’t choose a topic merely because others have made money writing about it.
  2. Avoid writing about a subject about which you are enthusiastic but few others are.
  3. Don’t start a blog about something you don’t know much about or have little experience with. Also, don’t write about too many different topics; your blog needs to have a focus.

How to Choose a Blog Topic

It takes effort and thought to come up with a blog topic. You’ll probably investigate a few options before deciding on the niche you think is best for you.You are more likely to succeed if you choose a topic about which you are knowledgeable and personally engaged rather than one about which you believe will be profitable. Your enthusiasm for your subject comes out in your writing, resulting in a sizable audience of people who share your passion.Keep these five suggestions in mind while you search for blog topics. They’ll assist you in achieving your blogging objectives by guiding you away from bad decisions and toward what works best for you.

Choose a topic that you’re enthusiastic about.

When readers perceive passion, they recognize it. When you write about something you care about, your blog is more likely to attract people who share your enthusiasm, and the word will spread. Choose a blog topic that you are passionate about and that you actually enjoy; this will help you stay motivated for a long time. A successful blog is one that is updated on a regular basis. Keep the content fresh by updating it on a regular basis to give your blog the best chance of success.Examine how you spend your leisure time, what you read, any classes you’ve attended, things you already know a lot about, and your interests when deciding on a topic you’re enthusiastic about.

Choose a topic that you enjoy discussing.

A two-way communication between you (the blogger) and your readership is required for a successful blog (your readers). Be responsive and receptive to readers who leave comments on your blog or email you to discuss your pieces in further depth. The sense of community you build around your blog will determine its long-term success. It’s simple to debate and communicate with your readers when you choose a blog topic on a subject you already enjoy talking about.

Pick a topic that you don’t mind debating with others.

Visitors to your site will come from various walks of life, with a variety of viewpoints, and some of them may not agree with everything you post. Successful bloggers love debating their blog’s themes from all perspectives and value the debate, which is healthy and encourages readership growth. Choose a topic that you are not personally comfortable discussing with others. Choose a topic that allows you to express yourself freely.

Pick a topic that you’d like to learn more about.

The ability of blogs to deliver fresh, interesting information and discussions on a wide range of topics is one of its distinguishing features. You should like reading about your blog’s topic and keeping up with news and current events linked to it if you want your blog to be successful. You’ll be able to maintain your blog’s content exciting and relevant to your visitors if you do it this way. In your blog, you take on the role of subject matter expert. You’ll be spending a lot of time preserving that status, so pick something you’re interested in learning about on a regular basis.

Dealing with anxiety while working from home!

Telecommuting accompanies a ton of interruptions. There may even be a distinction from work since you don’t see your group consistently and surprisingly working in segregation. This may hamper your emotional well-being just as your general efficiency.

Right now, it is somewhat hard to decide when will the circumstance be typical once more, when will all the hustle-clamor start. Till all is good and well, we as a whole need to take a gander at the more brilliant side of life of working inside the got dividers of our home and with our families’ sponsorship and supporting us.

Making a daily practice and adhering to it can assist with diminishing some pressure that accompanies telecommuting. Work from home should not be tied in with escaping the bed, going directly to the PC to begin the workday, yet rather keeping a design and putting together those work hours to have the effect.

Make an assigned workspace for your office work to genuinely and intellectually separate work from home life. It very well may be any space, appropriate room, a corner in the overhang, or perhaps a region in your lounge; it simply must be away from interruptions, with satisfactory lighting and whatever other assets that you may have to work easily.

Telecommuting can to be sure be somewhat repetitive with no adjustment of working space or individuals around, which can now and then negatively affect your balance between serious and fun activities and every day efficiency. It is in every case great to take a little break from work and spoil yourself. Be that as it may, recollect, self-care isn’t something you do when you are anxious; all things considered, it is choosing to deal with yourself as a customary practice. So be inventive and track down a ‘glad’ spot to invest some energy reviving.

Ensure in these difficult occasions you stay associated with individuals around you. There might be chances that the telecommuting arrangement can cause you to feel restless and disengaged, yet opening up with individuals around you can help you feel somewhat better.

IS IT NECESSARY TO DO A JOB BEFORE STARTING A BUSINESS?

Don’t you think, that it’s very important to know businesses before starting one? It is a yes from my side. Why is that a yes? There are millions and trillions of people who are looking forward to their startups and become an entrepreneur. But it is remarkable to be well versed on what business you wanna run, the experience of the same will help you in future. I would like to say experience is the only thing we won’t ever regret about. Experience is the kind of thing that makes the person uptight, it’s not just only about experiencing a job to start a business, it’s also about experiencing some actions in personal life that would help us to improve. prior knowledge will help you get all the appropriate and vital information on which you are planning to go on with. It will enhance your skills more, by experience you get more discipline, you can acquire the leadership skills if you do not have one you learn to be one. It is well said that, keep making mistakes until you are successful.

Many people nowadays are anticipated in starting something new or walk away to do something of own and resign from the old job. The idea seems interesting and passionate but the dreams look good while dreaming because, in reality, it is quite different from a dream which may create some trouble and also the loss of money put in for investment or setting some business up, this will happen if the person doesn’t know this.

Making a jump from employee to entrepreneur is a big move for one, it’s not only about making money but also about own mindset, also in changing a lifestyle, and the way of thinking.
What’s the thought in mind when we think about being an entrepreneur? will he be able to own a business or is being an employee is the best thing. As we all talked about mindset. Employees have a different mindset than an entrepreneur. Employees think like, they have been given this assignment and they have to finish accordingly. So that person has the level of discipline to work upon as soon as possible. Where, entrepreneurs think like, they know how to do it when to do it independently, as there are no restrictions and pressure from anyone. One can do it with whole lots of creativity and with responsibility.

There are advantages of working before starting your own business:
1. you can learn more about your idea and creativity, get more time to explore different business options and what suits you.
2. Can learn more about the industry and how’s it working and what are the ups and downs in the business. And also get to know where to invest, how much to invest.

This amazes me that everyone in the world wants to be more independent and all that stuff. But there will be some pieces of advice from parents and relatives about doing a job first rather than starting up a business first, and that’s true. But there might be a reason some people got an idea to start while they were working as a colleague. If you have the confidence of converting your ideas into a business then why wasting time.

UNEMPLOYMENT CRISIS IN INDIA

Amidst all the problems that exist in India, the unemployment crisis is at the topmost position. A report by Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) reveals India’s unexpected increased unemployment rate to 24% in April 2020, then decreasing to 9.1% in December 2020 and 6% in January 2021. Thus impacted as many as around 90 lakh people losing jobs during the worldwide COVID-19 lockdown. The number of unemployed people might have deceased over the period, but unemployment still remains an unsolved problem in India.

Problems caused due to unemployment

Unemployment and poverty goes side by side. The problem of unemployment gives rise to the problem of poverty. Young people after a long time of unemployment find the wrong way to earn money. To get rid from the unemployment stress, they accept alcohol or drugs. The personal and social costs of unemployment include severe financial hardship and poverty, debt, homeless and housing stress, family tensions and breakdown, boredom, alienation, shame and stigma, increased social isolation, crime, erosion of confidence an self-esteem, the atrophying of work skills and ill-health.

Haryana- The highest unemployment rate in India.

Haryana recorded the highest unemployment rate in India, as per the data released by the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy for February 2021. With a 26.4% unemployment rate. Haryana’s unemployment is nearly four times the national average. The spike in the unemployment rate comes after the state saw a considerable dip in the jobless figures in January 2021. In January, the unemployment came down to 17.7% from over 32% in December 2020. Economists and industries have attributed this to extreme volatility in the market.

Types of unemployment crisis in India:

  • Disguised unemployment: When organizations hire employees more than they need.
  • Structural unemployment: When employees skill set mismatch with their jobs roles due to the unavailability of jobs in the market.
  • Seasonal unemployment: When people do not have work during certain seasons of the year, like labourer in India rarely earn through daily wage jobs throughout the year.
  • Technological unemployment: It is when people lose their jobs due to technological advancements. Example- manual processes replaced by digital and automation.
  • Cyclical unemployment: When a massive number of employees are removed from the organization during recessions.
  • Frictional unemployment: When people are unemployed for a short period while searching for a new job or switching between jobs. The reason for this type of unemployment is not a shortage of jobs, instead the employees themselves quit their jobs in search of better job opportunities.

Major causes and impact of unemployment

  • Large population-India has crossed 1,389,456,823 population already with only $1,877 per capital income.
  • Low or no educational levels-As per NSO’s report, India’s average literacy rate is 77.7%. The sad part is, almost 2 million graduates and half a million postgraduates are still unemployed in India.
  • Low employment skills.Around 47% of graduates in India are not suitable for any kind of job role.
  • Job opportunity and skills mismatch-According to a report, 48% of urban youth face the problem of landing a suitable job, 38% of those who are employed are dissatisfied with their current job.
  • Societal responsibilities for women-Only 19.9% of educated women in India are employed, as many of them are graduates but have to get married right after their graduation, others quit jobs due to family responsibilities or pregnancy and maternity gap.

Solutions to unemployment

  • Education-For every problem in the world, education stands as the strongest solution. Education is the basic right of any citizen and it should be provided with minimum fees. Right from equal educational facilities, to skill-based and computer knowledge, the educational system can and should be improved.
  • Career guidance-Job seekers who are educated but could not figure the right career path should consult a career guidance expert. Every industry has numerous career opportunities but Indian workers lack complete awareness about the same. A career guidance expert can help job seekers understand the industry know-how, zero down on the best career option and choose the right career path for them.
  • Skill-based training-Every job role requires a specific skill set and every job seeker should get trained in those skills. Many EdTech startups provide career guidance with industry, job or company-specific training to hone organizational skills. These skills training sessions also include resume through mock interviews and everything that can help job seekers become employable.

The current pandemic has been very stressful for many people around the world. Uncertainties in employment, increased job stress, academic stress and worry about the spread of the coronavirus and contracting the disease have been a few worries plaguing the minds of many people across the globe. Too much of stress and worrying is bad for both the physical well-being of the body and mental health of the psyche.

It is important to occasionally take a step back from the various problems and worries in life and destress. What better way to do it than with some laughter? The saying ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine’ is actually more than just that. Some of the benefits of laughter are:

  • It is a mood booster– Laughing releases endorphins. Endorphins are hormones which are responsible for the feeling of happiness and pleasure. The more a person laughs, the more endorphins get produced, which consequently lead to more happiness
  • It protects the body from effects of stress– When you laugh, your body’s stress response gets activated and then gets reduced. This causes a increase and subsequent decrease in the blood pressure and the heart rate
  • It gives a boost to the immune system– Prolonged stress and tension can compromise the immune system. Laughter decreases its effects thus strengthening your immune system

Phytoremediation : A sustainable approach for ecosystem restoration

Phytoremediation is a technique by which toxic or harmful contaminants are bioaccumulated by the plants or trees by their internal metabolism. This technique, when used to treat land and water systems, is called phytoremediation. This technique is used by various institutions to treat water and land bodies that are degraded because of human activities.

Chernobyl is a place in Ukraine where a tragic Nuclear Disaster took place in 1986. Which transformed the place into an isolated wasteland with radioactivity. After decades of extensive plantation in Chernobyl, the place is totally transformed. Plants and trees which help in phytoremediation were planted in the area and the project turns out to be a total success. The Chernobyl we see now is a result of extensive phytoremediation in that place. Like Chernobyl, there are many other places where phytoremediation is being used for restoration.

A point to note is not all plants are made for phytoremediation. Some plants which are used for this purpose are duckweed, sunflowers, Four o’clock, Pteris vittata, barley, hemp, Paulownia, etc. The list goes on. Research is going on every day for the discovery of more such plants which can help in phytoremediation.

Advantages of phytoremediation are that the process helps in the elimination of toxic elements, a natural and a sustainable way for ecosystem restoration, improves the fertility of soil also the place where the technique is being applied not only becomes greener but also becomes aesthetically pleasing.

With advantages come disadvantages and they are time-based process and needs many years for the result, the specific plant has to be chosen for a specific area and its need, foraging of animals has to be restricted at any cost because the plants and tree uptakes toxic element and if other animals consume the plants or trees, it may cause toxicity to the animal as well.

Reiterating, I think phytoremediation is one of the excellent techniques for ecosystem restoration sustainably.

Is Dowry more important than someone’s life?

There are two categories of “male for sale ” first is the traditional one.. men whose parents straight away demand money n things,, give list of gifts they want n money to be distributed to relatives……..(anyways i compare such relatives of boy to nachaniyas who are taking money from girls father to dance. please stop saying they dance for their nephews wedding. But atleast in this category the girls family knows the exact cost n they decide whether they want to buy or not… and if the” product” they are buying the worth the cost or not….and few families happily do it because their daughters are not educated enough to go out n earn n they give one time payment to boy to feed clothe n shelter their daughters for life time plus a prestigious tag of “married” which gives a girl so much respect in society..and i wont forget to mention an annual maintenance charge when they give expensive gifts to girls family on their birthdays anniversaries, festivals, pregnancy of girl, childbirth..very cunningly there r so many customs which require a girls family to keep shelling out money one way or another….But again i say this particular breed of doolhas (bridegrooms) atleast tells his cost before he is bought under the leash of matrimony.

Second category are most dangerous.they will happily claim “dowry not required” n will be boasting they r well off n dont require anything..but wait….. Are they not sending interests after seeing what girl does, how educated is she n how much she earns…what parents do n what they earn..they assume that due to society showoff practices so common in middle class the family will give them dowry without being asked..n they r not stupid like gigolos who take one time payment for marrying a girl they will be taking monthly payment when they want the girls to give their salaries to them n ultimately have all control on her money…. who cares for a stupid TV fridge AC washing machine car when the trophy girl can buy these things with her four month salary…or even with what she already has in her bank.one can even cry about being in debts n ask the girl to clear them up all with her savings…(That’s another story no debts r ever mentioned before ..if a girls family know the guy has debts equal to his five year salary ..no one will marry their girls to them..)so they just tell their salaries n later know that once a girl is bound to them legally n especially if she is satisavitri types who believes that her man is her everything n there is no life beyond marraige..she will be so happy to clear debts. .this is steal deal,,,,getting a girl who cooks cleans plus gives money too!…but the problem starts when the girl is not willing to part with her hard earned money or she cannot take the abusive behaviour of inlaws anymore..its then that the true colors of this breed shows..the seemingly teetotaler turns out to be a monster who will go to any extend to physically n mentally torture a girl, a girl who is intelligent educated n doing well in career will be a sorry picture then..few have guts to file divorce n walk away…better to spend all ur savings on a divorce case n get rid of such person than staying in this relationship n getting tortured everyday n also having no right over your hard earned money so a final piece of advice to parents seeking grooms for their daughters who were not able to find a mate for life on their own..even if u go for arranged marraige especially through matrimonial site, before finalising the wedding please get a detective agency to enquire about the boy…better to spend money now than later getting your battered daughter treated in ICU battling for life after the greedy in-laws poisons her or spending a fortune getting divorce if ur daughter is sane enough to leave the married tag happily..n if u urself endorse dowry n want to show off the party n dowry items atleast buy gigolo of first variety mentioned above, atleast they mention all costs clearly n have better chance of keeping ur daughter happy. but why do that too….either find a man for ur daughter or let her live alone.

Gigolos are not worthy of marraige. Don’t bother about the society….do they come n help when your daughter is beaten up?no do they go n try to covince the boy n his family not to torture the girl? no…are they ready to contribute the amount the greedy boy asks after one month of marraige? no infact the so called relatives n wellwishers will start avoiding u once they know there r matrimonial problems.so be mature n take right decisions. girl is burnt alive every 20 minute for dowry n not even one percent of cases of DV go to court. Women is silenced to save grace of family.

OUR FUTURE WITH ROBOTICS

Robotics is one of the fast growing industries in modern times. The scope of this field is vast and can assist us in our daily house chores, automobile sectors, education, healthcare, and many more. The Robot Institute of America, 1979 defines a robot as a reprogrammable, multifunctional, manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various programmed motions to perform a variety of tasks. Robots are seeming to be an important aspect of our life helping us to produce more quality products in lesser times. Robotics has made an immediate and huge impact on the world in recent times. A cafe in Japan is staffed with humanoid robots for waitressing. These robots are controlled by paralyzed people or people with different disabilities. Looking at the present scenario we can expect robotics expansion in the above field in the near future.

  1. Public security: AI technology can help us predict and detect crime in the future. With this technology, the safety rate for the common public will increase and it can also be a great help for law enforcement officials to take actions against crimes faster and in an efficient way. There are camera based security systems available in the market that can automatically recognize suspicious activities.
  1. Education: It is not possible for a single teacher to meet the needs of personalized learnings of every student present in the classroom. E-learning is helping us to overcome this problem by letting the students learn in their own space. Robots can act as an alternative for teachers. A humanoid robot NAO has already started forming bonds with students around the world. This humanoid machine also has important senses of natural interactions that include moving, listening, speaking, and connecting.
  1. House chores: Cloud connected robots have already become a part of our lives. We can set up the vacuum cleaners for cleaning. There are multifunctional robotic cookers that can automatically steam, bake, slow cook, and perform many other actions without manual intervention.
  1. Employees: Robots can be seen as our coworkers in the future due to the speed and quality of work produced by them. Due to their multifunctional abilities and accuracy, they might become a replacement for human employees.
  1. Automobile: At present, there exist automatic cars that can perform activities automatically without manual efforts. But still, they need human intervention to some extent. But in the future, there can definitely be fully automatic cars that won’t need any kind of manual work at all.
  1. Health: Pharmabotics is a term coined for robots in the healthcare sector. Instead of talking to a stranger regarding our medical issues robots will act as an ATM for medicines.
  1. Entertainment: Virtual reality will surely enter our homes in the near future. It is even possible to interact with our home automation systems with the help of conversations that will respond to our attempts.

We can see that the scope of robotics is now growing with a speed. People use robotics in a lot of sectors or we can even say in almost of sectors. Some countries’ people have started using robots in their daily life as well. Robotics will surely help the technological development of a country and it will ease a lot of human efforts as well.
